This is going to indygo88 as part of a TBR Relay on BookObsessed. Originally I read Case Histories but then needed that for a Book Exchange group (as it was on someone's (rather small!) wishlist). I hope you're happy with this instead, and so it doesn't take ages to get there I bought you a copy and have kept the original TBR! Also, I thought I'd send you Jane Eyre as a RABCK - enjoy!!

"The Smart family's lacklustre holiday in Norwich is turned upside down when a beguiling stranger called Amber appears, bringing with her love, joy, pain and upheaval. The Smarts try to make sense of their bewildering emotions as Amber tramples over family boundaries and forces them to think about their world and themselves in an entirely new way. "The Accidental" is at once a mysterious web of secret identities and a ruthlessly honest look at the silent cracks that can develop unnoticed in relationships over time." - amazon.co.uk synopsis

Ah! Such a great mail day -- TWO books! Yippee! For the life of me I couldn't remember who had promised to send "The Accidental" to me, and I knew for sure I wasn't expecting "Jane Eyre". Then I saw your screen name & it rang a bell...just didn't know which book to expect from you! LOL! So it's a happy day for me! Thanks for both books, bigcurlyloz!

5 out of 10

A difficult read -- not because of the subject matter, but just difficult to plunder through & make sense of. It's an interesting plotline, and also thought-provoking to see how an unexpected & uninvited visitor can initiate such dramatic change & transition in a single family's existence. Each characterization was unique, but I found myself actually enjoying the Michael segments the most (despite him being the most despicable of the group) because I was able to follow them most easily. The stream-of-consciousness writing is difficult to get through at times. There really were moments of genius in this novel -- some really profound statements. But as a whole, the book just didn't seem to pull together as I'd hoped, and the segments from Amber's point of view really didn't do much to help that. I found myself numerous times thinking, "What the....???"
