Patricia Cornwell is sure she has solved the Jack the Ripper case . . . though I remain somewhat unconvinced. Her theory that British artist Walter Sickert committed these crimes rings true as to the psychological portrait she paints of Sickert; however, her forensic evidence lacks. Since she bills herself as a forensic specialist I find this a bit disingenuous. Also, as a founder and Chairman of the Board of the Virginia Institute of Forensic Science, the organization that conducted much of the research, I can't help but wonder about the inherent conflict of interest. A novelist must tread carefully when writing about history. Just because it COULD have been, doesn't MAKE IT SO.

The best aspect of this book was its evocation of life in London's East End circa 1888. Cornwell's research in this area seemed thorough, and she presented it well.

I received this in the mail a few months ago, and just realized that I never registered it! My sincere apologies junegirl!
My husband is reading it, and is about halfway through, then it will be my turn. He says so far he is really enjoying the book. We both like Cornwell's writing, and so I can't wait to read it myself!
I'll make another journal entry when I've read it...

There are a lot of BC'ers with this title on their *wish lists*, so I'm starting an International Bookray with it.
If you would like to be added to this Bookray, please send me a PM.
Check here for the next reader, and PM them when you're ready to send the book on to them.
Thanks!
:-)

This book wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Some interesting theories, yes, but nothing too solid in my opinion.
