Journal Entry 3 by Molyneux from Oxford, Oxfordshire United Kingdom on Sunday, March 30, 2008
Oh dear...I've done a Netstation!!! Sorry - picked this up at the Convention in Charleston almost a year ago - quite fitting that it's planned for release at the next Convention which is to be held in London in April 2008! Amazon Editorial Review: The last train of the night pulls into the gas-lit platform of Baker Street underground station. A young woman is found strangled, her body abandoned in a second-class carriage. The brutal “Railway Murder” brings Inspector Decimus Webb to the newly formed Metropolitan Line on a bleak winter’s night. His investigation leads him through the slums of Victorian London to the Holborn Refuge, a home for “fallen women,” and to Clara White, a respectable servant. But Clara has her own tragic and shameful history. As her past is revealed, Inspector Webb must decide whether she is merely a victim of circumstances, or a prime suspect. Only then can he unearth a dark secret, hidden in the depths of underground London. Lee Jackson’s second novel brilliantly recreates the sights, sounds and smells of Victorian London, taking readers on a suspense-filled journey through its criminal underworld.

Journal Entry 5 by Rivercassini from London , Greater London United Kingdom on Saturday, April 26, 2008
The cover of this book proudly proclaims that "Victorian London is vividly brought to life...for an atmospheric picture of the period". This is a strange choice to promote the book because it doesn't deliver on that promise at all. The London it presents is rather flat and repetitive, with a very narrow of characters and limited setting, its only really Clare Market that comes to life, and then only for a few pages. But there are good things about this book which the publishers could have chose to focus on instead. It's a decent mystery, with a likeable and intelligent policeman, or peeler, on the trail of a dastardly murderer. The plot unfolds constantly, if perhaps a little too evenly, over the course of the novel, and the style is engaging and straightforward for the most part. Not a brilliant book, but one that I'm glad to have read. Would suit a single-sitting read. Read April 2008

Journal Entry 7 by Rivercassini from London , Greater London United Kingdom on Friday, May 02, 2008
I didn't make it to the meet up on Wednesday. Something to do with my father in law's dodgy knee and then getting drenched at the bus stop (literally, I was dripping and soaked through). So this book is back on my availables pile.

Journal Entry 10 by rahar109 from Farnborough, Hampshire United Kingdom on Sunday, November 08, 2009
Despite being written in the present tense which usually annoys me, I enjoyed this book. It is a straightforward murder mystery, not as sensational as the blurb on the back makes out. Interesting cover, too.
