This man suffered from being "Locked In" after a stroke. Very interesting book. Gives caregivers some things to think about. I like books that give you something to think about.

Wow-great book. I've never heard of Jean-Dominique Bauby before or of "locked-in syndrome." Thanks for sharing this book Bug007 and varsityfly17. I am going to reserve this copy for an upcoming bookbox.
Added to booklady331's ABC (Already Been Crossed) bookbox. Happy travels!
I've got a copy of this book in Mt. TBR (It's been there since 2007...I should read it soon!) so I'll let this copy keep traveling, but it's a book I look forward to reading!
This book enjoyed a brief stay in San Jose, California before continuing its travels in the Already Book Crossed (ABC) bookbox.

My Review: This was an interesting book. I think having "locked in syndrome" would be my worst nightmare. At least he was able to communicate somewhat with people who were patient.
My favorite quote from the book: "And then one afternoon as I confided my woes to her likeness, an unknown face interposed itself between us. Reflected in the glass I saw the head of a man who seemed to have emerged from a vat of formaldehyde. His mouth was twisted, his nose damaged, his hair tousled, his gaze full of fear. One eye was sewn shut, the other goggled like the doomed eye of Cain. For a moment I stared at that dilated pupil, before I realized it was only mine."

Thank you for offering this book, it sounds very interesting!
Wow, very interesting - but scary!! Definitely made me think. A book that I think everyone should read, especially caregivers!
TAG!! Sending to stringofpearls from the wishlist tag thread.
Thank you, Rhonder, for another great book!
This was a sad but special story. I can't imagine how I'd feel or what I'd do if I was in this horrendous situation, but I'm so impressed this man had the perseverance to communicate his thoughts while he could.
Sending this to MizKaren for the birthday group rabck. Happy Birthday!

Many thanks to stringofpearls for sending me this book for my birthday! I remember reading about it, and thinking that it would be something I'd like to read... and then sort of forgot about it. And now here it is,what a wonderful surprise! Thanks very much!
