An entertaining read. There are, however, various logical faults with the book:
1. Why would the fake painting show Van Gogh with the wrong ear bandaged? Surely, Anton would have copied the original exactly as it is and would never have simply reversed the image. That seems silly. Also, an expert can determine whether a painting is a fake or not on account of other factors: style, canvas type (very important with Van Gogh) etc. This for me is a really weak point in the narrative.
2. However hardy and brave Krantz is, I simply do not believe she could swing herself up to a handstand to escape out of the open window of her hospital room, just days after having been shot in the shoulder. This is physically impossible.
3. Also, if the guards realised she had money, why let themselves be bribed? They could simply have taken the money from this hated prisoner.

Perhaps one shouldn't really analyse the book for logic, but just go along for the ride. It's certainly captivating, and to compare Archer to Dan Brown as suggested on the title page is surely insulting for a master who has been around so much longer than Brown and whose style surely exceeds Brown's exaggerated writing by far!

I'll see if anyone is interested in this as a book ray.

Thanks so much, Sidney, for this lovely RABCK.
I just love how the BC karma works... it seems like almost every time I send out a RABCK I receive one shortly thereafter.

One of my coworkers is traveling to Bulgaria later this month. She wanted to bring some English-language books for an American Corner in Sofia so I offered to pull some books together for her. This book is off for a trip overseas!
