I bought this book off trademe a while ago as it looked interesting.
Bumped it up the TBR pile since I'll be sending it off to MrMustard in the UK next.

An enjoyable and informative book which I got a lot out of.
I enjoyed Dan's sense of humour and got a few giggles out of some parts (some I liked enough to read out loud to anyone who would listen from my family).

It was interesting reading about the process of open adoption (I was amazed that it was only legal in three states though things may of changed since this book was published in 2000) and what it all means. Dan has opinions on a lot of things which adds a more information and personality to an already personal book.

I'll be adding Dan's other books to my wishlist and I hope MrMustard enjoys this book too.

This turned up today completely out of the blue. Big thanks to alkaline-kiwi for sending it to me all the way from NZ. A quick check through my PMs revealed that I never got alkaline-kiwi's postal address, so did not send anything her way. However, there is a return address on the package, so I'll rectify that shortly.

Looking forward to reading this as I've enjoyed other stuff by the same author.

I'd been looking forward to this and it didn't disappoint. Savage manages to treat a potentially sentimental story with humour, while still conveying the emotions that he and his boyfriend go through during the adoption process. I probably learnt more about 'open' adoptions from this book - something I'd never even heard of before - than I did about the potential pitfalls facing a gay couple looking to adopt, as at its heart it really is just about a couple trying to adopt a kid.

As ever, Savage is savagely honest. And that's usually when he's at his funniest. The chapter written to his future kid is one of the most excruciating and hilarious things I've read in a while.
