10 out of 10

Another wonderful novel from Ian McEwan. I read this while on holiday in Brittany.

What I love about his books is that he tells a story and then, almost in the penultimate final sentence of this book, makes a statement so profound that it causes you to completely re-consider everything you have just read.

Such it was with this novel. The sentence here - I don't want to give plot away to anyone who casually wanders by this page - stayed with me FOR DAYS, it still does. It has caused me to stop and think, quite hard, about the course of my own life. It's a wonderful work of literature and McEwan is a brilliant, brilliant writer.
