Cover of Book Chain journal

This is the journal for the North American Book Chain. I hope it will go across the United States and Canada from the 2007 Convention in Charleston, South Carolina.

Please scroll down for a very important warning concerning bad weather conditions!

If you are unable to pm the next person in the chain, contact me. My email address is on my profile/bookshelf. You can give me your email address, and I will give it to the next person. If you don't feel comfortable with that, I will relay messages for you.

There are blank pages for journaling, photo pockets for photos and postcards, and page protectors if you want to use them.

North American Book Chain's blog, with maps and links

I look forward to following your progress, NABC Journal!

Here is the list of "links" in the chain, subject to change as needed. I am happy to add you as a new "link" if it hasn't reached your area yet. I don't know your state and your geographical region as well as you do. The order that I've set up for the chain is not set in stone. If it will be more convenient for you to switch places with another "link" (participant), arrange it with her or him, and let me know so I can change it in the original post and in the journal entry. Thanks.

***Editing to add a cautionary note, PLEASE be mindful of the weather in your location and strongly consider delaying any traveling in snowy, icy, stormy, flooding, or any dangerous conditions! If you are impatient, you can always mail the journal to the next "link." There's no time limit, though, so you can wait until the roads are safe. I don't want to hear of any Bookcrossers having an accident because of this book chain!***

The convention has come and gone and I have a moment to sit down and sit down! I *think* the actual journal was picked up by the next person on the list (tcouli?) but haven't completely unpacked the cars to be certain. More in a bit. I will add to this in a bit.

I am planning to meet tchouli in Montgomery, Alabama on June 8, and give her the journal then.

Here it is with me and bookczuk at the convention:

Here's a link to our Meet-Up site - mississippimom has posted pics from our event - enjoy!

Journal is here in Kansas! I'm looking forward to adding something of my own.

I had a great meeting today with Goddess-Of-Fire at Cracker Barrel in Joplin, MO. We both brought our moms and kskid was there too. I think everyone enjoyed the visit.

That's me in pink on the left, accepting the journal from Goddess-Of-Fire.

Journal Entry 15 by ksreader from Frontenac, Kansas USA on Thursday, December 06, 2007

Wow- I've had this thing for WAY too long! Antof9 and I have finally figured out how to make the hand-off. We live 10 hours apart, so we're getting a little creative and meeting at an airport during one of her business trip travels. I'm so excited about meeting her!

Journal Entry 16 by wingAntof9wing from Lakewood, Colorado USA on Saturday, December 08, 2007

This book has not been rated.

I finally connected with ksreader! It feels like we've been talking about passing this off since summer, but I see she only got it at the end of September :) Anyway, all along I'd been thinking we'd meet halfway into Kansas, which would be fine if it weren't the time of year that it is. That is, the time of year when there's snow and ice and blowing winds in the flattest state in the country, and I wasn't quite as willing to drive 9 hours (twice) as I was in July!

Time passed and I feared she'd be stuck with the journal until May when I realized that maybe ... just maybe ... I could give myself an intentional layover near her. Sure enough, it worked! I'm on my last business trip to NY for the year and I was able to land at the Kansas City airport for just about an hour to hand off the book, meet ksreader and quite possibly the cutest 3rd grader on the planet (pictured here if the upload works), grab a coffee and a quick visit, and then jump on the plane for Chicago and then on to NY. Worked like a charm, and although bad weather was predicted everywhere I went, I got out of each city in time :)

Ksreader and kskid were extra-nice: they brought me dark chocolate! Yum! It ended up being my dinner on the next flight!

Anyway, I have the journal and will hopefully pass it off to innae soon. I've been wanting to meet her anyway (she'a a wild-releasing fool and I'm always getting her release alerts), so that will be another treat.

Yay! I get to meet innae tomorrow to hand of the journal! My book club is meeting at a downtown coffee shop tomorrow, and we'll meet afterward.

It's supposed to be sunny and 53 degrees (F) in Colorado tomorrow.

... and that's why we live here :)

(picture is of how our back deck looked last year when we still had the lawn furniture out)

Journal Entry 18 by winginnaewing from Aurora, Colorado USA on Saturday, February 23, 2008

This book has not been rated.

Antof9 and I got together at Stella's Coffee Haus at 1476 S. Pearl St. and had quite a lovely conversation. It is fascinating that we had not met when I lived over on her side of town, but, now we have, and perhaps she will join me in my trek to meet stinalyn (whom I have yet to conact -- will post again once I know how the book will get to them! in NM...it may be a bit, as this is an iffy time for weather, and a mountain crossing will be necessar :)

I do have to mention, in the little bit I have perused, everyone has been quite creative, and generous in adding from their state!

**ED 5/3/08 -- met up with ant for a mini get together with otakuu and billsmith, and snuck in this picture. This IS the same place we originally met to exchange the book :-)

I took a few pictures of the journal enjoying some Colorado Snow -- a while ago -- and meant to post in here, but well here is the best one from March 5

I have been in contact with stina, and we have yet to arrange a date to get together. Will update again when we have an idea when :-)

The journal got to meet up with otakuu and billsmith before it will eventually get to NM. Antof9 organized a mini get together here in Denver. Was a nice visit. I will post the pics to the flickr album, but here is one!

Journal Entry 21 by wingstinalynwing from Fort Collins, Colorado USA on Saturday, July 05, 2008

10 out of 10

I just got this from innae! Pax & I met her over at the B&N cafe, which is just a block from the hotel where we're staying this week for the Mensa Annual Gathering. We had a delightful time chatting with innae. Pax took photos, but I won't be able to upload them right away due to the Internet situation here at the Sheraton. I'll post an update as soon as I can, though. We just got back to the hotel and I've flipped through the journal a bit. It's so cool!! I really look forward to reading it properly and adding my bit.

Journal Entry 22 by winginnaewing from Aurora, Colorado USA on Saturday, July 05, 2008

This book has not been rated.

stina is just TOO quick...but thought I would post, as I have a picture to share!! And we had a nice little chat, as the three of us share a law enforcement type background. Was a good time!! Thanks again to fancyhorse for dreaming this up, as ant, billsmith, otakku and stina are the first BCers I have met!

(dang it...I keep getting the programming error page, so, I will try to upload the picture a bit later. ED: 07/07/08 - still not letting me upload the pic, so, the picture has been added to the flikr account)

I got to meet stinalyn and pax! They came to Las Cruces to deliver the NABC! (Okay, they headed south for the Hatch Chile Festival. Las Cruces was just a bonus!) nmmadhatter and libre-muncher were also able to join us and look through the journal!

I have glanced through just a little bit, and I can't wait to have time to sit down and really go through it. After I am through, I will be figuring out how to get it to MissCyn in Sugar Land, Texas, which is only 700 miles away! (Marinaw has not responded to any PMs, and her bookshelf mentions a new baby due any day now, so I figured she might want to be skipped!)

Received to share at the 2009 UnConvention this month in Kansas City. Yea! It's been fun to see what's been added since I first had the journal.

Journal Entry 27 by affinity4books from Bryan, Texas USA on Monday, October 26, 2009

This book has not been rated.

I carried this home from the UnCon in my carry-on. It's quite big and heavy now! (and it took up room that I could have used for more books from the book buffet, but I was willing to make the sacrifice :) ) Several of the convention-goers wrote a note. It was so much fun to meet so many great bookcrossers.
I passed it along to Laurellane when we arrived back in Texas, since she often goes to Austin (where she can hopefully meet MyssCyn).
