I picked this up at the book buffet at the Charleston Bookcrossing Convention. I was supposed to get this in a trade about a year ago but it still hasn't come through so I thought I would snatch this one while I could.
Thanks!
Thanks!
The second book in the Eragon series and I'm on the fence about it. We follow Eragon as he sets off to train how to be a rider with the Elves and his cousin Roran whose village is being attacked by the Empire and they need to choose how best to manage this. Of the two, Roran's journey was a lot less filler and some plot-driven action. Earagon's journey was hundreds of pages of filler.
I think the story could have been salvaged if the fight at the end had been more than about 70 pages. It started and ended too quickly, wasn't flushed out enough, and Eragon didn't really get to use much of the stuff that he was taught in the previous 900 pages of the book. What was the point?
I'd still like to know how this series ends, but I'm not sure I'm willing to wade through 2 x 900 pages to get there.
