This was my introduction to Christopher Moore, and I was not disappointed! I really enjoyed the writing style and the story (about a woman who gets turned into a vampire, the 19-year-old boy/would-be writer who becomes her lacky/boyfriend, the weird all-night supermarket stockers, the Emperor, etc.). All in all, a fast-paced, amusing story. And you can't beat the cheesy cover art!

Woo hoo! Another Christopher Moore book to devour! If this one is even half as good as LAMB: THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO BIFF, I'll be hooked for life. Thanks, greedyreader! Now the hard choice: does it go on TOP on the TBR stack, or does it take its "proper" place -- dead last (pun intended? you decide).
Promised to CasualReader, and bumped up to near the top of the TBR stack.
This is the third Christopher Moore novel I've read, and I can now say with certainty he has gone on my list of must-read authors.
What great fun! Although I may never again go grocery shopping with nonchalance. Who knows where that frozen turkey or can of peas has been? Loved "Peary." And the Emperor. And the dogs. And how Tommy tries to get Jody to...oh, wait, that's probably giving away too much.
Thanks for sharing this, greedyreader. It's on its way to CasualReader next.

Received today, and it was a pleasant surprise. Thank you very much, avanta7 :-)
This is the third Christopher Moore book I've read (the last two being "Lamb" and "Practical Demonkeeping"). It is also just the beginning of my Christopher Moore marathon. With few interruptions, I'm going to read all of his books, and reading Bloodsucking Fiends kept me motivated to continue this quest.
I think what I like most, so far, about Christopher Moore's books is that not only are they WAY out there, twisted, and funny, but they also have a heart. Bloodsucking Fiends is no exception.
I, too, loved the whole cast or characters. Wong 1, Wong 2, Wong 4, and Wong 5 amused me. Wong 3 and Wong 6, I just found annoying ;-) There was truly an interesting mix of characters at the grocery store, each on endearing in their own way. There were a few times in the book where I began to really hate Simon, and then Moore would throw a curve ball and make me feel sorry for the kid. Damn him!
The turtles, ha! That whole thing cracked me up. And poor Tommy...He'd do one stupid thing after another, and he was one of the smarter guys in the group. When he wanted to sneak around on Jody, and did what he did (read the book!) I was riveted. I just had to keep reading to see how he got out of that one.
Overall, I loved the book. Though I'm not sure what the point of the medical student was. I mean, really, we could have taken him out of the book completely, and he wouldn't have been missed. I guess all told he added about 5 pages to the story, though. Mr. Moore must have been trying for an even 300 pages.
The way I thought the book was going to end really pissed me off. I was about 4 pages from the end and was starting to feel let down. But, I ended up being very pleased with the ending. It wrapped up nicely.
Now on to Fluke! Thanks, Avanta7 for sending this my way!

Just arrived yesterday. Will journal again when I've read it!
I found another copy of this at Goodwill yesterday so I can keep it! Woohooo....I am definitely trying to find 'keeper' copies of Moore's books.
I'm going to release this one, unread, to another BC'er who is under the weather and hope it helps in her recovery.
Enjoy!

cestmoi, you are the greatest!!! I love Christopher Moore!! And you probably know this was on my Wish List. :-)
MissQ delivered it tonight and I'm reading it right away. Since I still have to sit with my foot up most of the time, this will be a good book to keep me smiling. :-)
Thanks so much! You have no idea how much I appreciate this. You are a special person.

It's now official. I am a dedicated Christopher Moore fan! This was another great book and it thoroughly kept me interested and entertained to the end. He's great at writing good comedy while keeping an interesting story going at the same time.
Thanks again cestmoi! I'm passing this over to MissQ now for her enjoyment. I hope you like it at least as much as I did. :)

Got this last night from RealBookWorm at our mini-meetup in my doorway. Thanks RBW (and cestmoi too for passing it on)! RBW, we really have to try to schedule a real get together soon. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to reading more Moore :-)
This was a cute book...another fast, somewhat strange read from Moore. This is the second book of his that I've read (the other was Practical Demonkeeping) and I enjoyed them both. This story about vampires in San Francisco is interesting and amusing in parts but I didn't find it (or PD) laugh-out-loud funny. I guess I'll have to wait for Lamb for that reaction (so I've heard). I did like how one of the characters from Practical Demonkeeping was in this book too, though it took me a while to realize it.
March 16 - This is going to Ealisaid as part of a trade.

Received in the mail today. Thanks so much, MissQ!
I finished reading "Bloodsucking Fiends" tonight and found it to be a quick, fun-to-read story. This was my third Christopher Moore book, and I'm finding that one of his strong points is his quirky, endearing characters. Even though his characters find themselves in such impossibly odd situations, they always have a true-to-life feeling about them. Like CasualReader, I wasn't really sure why Moore introduced the medical student character though, as Moore never really did anything with that part of the story. I, too, found myself chuckling in disbelief over those crazy turtles.
I was thinking about suggesting that my teenage son get a summer job stocking the shelves at the local grocery store, but after reading this book...maybe not!
Also, one final note...I received this book and it had already been to seven readers and done quite a bit of traveling, but it's still in great shape. You've just gotta love it when people take such good care of books. You guys are great!

Received in the mail, in trade for the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Delightful and twisted. I haven't been disappointed by a Moore book yet. Someone had to use this title for a vampire story someday, and who better?
C. Thomas Flood is a starving writer, just looking for someone who makes him feel secure enough to be insecure around. From the moment he meets Jody, he's sure she'll break his heart. But drinking his blood is a tad unexpected...
Then there's Moore's cast of bizarre supporting characters, like the Emperor of San Francisco and his trusty retainers, Bummer and Lazarus (a homeless man and his two dogs).
Books by Christopher Moore:
Coyote Blue
Practical Demonkeeping
Bloodsucking Fiends
A man attacked me, choked me, bit my neck, burned my hand, then stuffed my shirt full of money and put a dumpster on me and now I can see heat and hear fog. I've won Satan's lottery. Thus begins the first night of Jody's afterlife. She never asked to be a vampire, she doesn't even believe in them. But now she is one, and she doesn't know how to get along as one of the undead. She can never go out in the sun again. She can't eat or drink anything but blood. She heals freakishly fast, and has phenomenal senses. She will never age, but she's been warned that she can be killed. And she's just realized she will always need to lose five pounds. She's alone in a way she has never imagined before.

Santa brought this interesting looking book. I'm sure to enjoy the Holiday season with some fun reading!
Thanks Phantom :*
Thanks Phantom :*
There was some witty potential but I'm sorry this author is not fun witty. I did enjoy the book in a very light hearted way but it was a huge disappointment.
I do not see myself making any effort to read more of his work, though it did make fun light reading while sick and out of magazines.
Thanks for the "vampire bed time story" thought Phantom :*

Thanks for sending me this book, LadyGothic! Wow, this book sure has traveled a lot! And now it has arrived on the European continent, to do even more traveling! This book is going to be very high on my Mount TBR, because of all the good reviews in the journal entries. Greetings from the Netherlands, Patricia - Lunabooks
Sorry for keeping this book for so long. I gave it to a friend's daughter to read it. Enjoy!
