The Bad Mothers Handbook....hope it's not about me...

The Bad Mother's Handbook is the story of one year (1997)in the life of 3 unforgettable women:

Charlotte is doing her 'A' levels...& she's pregnant.

Karen, her Mum is 33 & now she's about to become a Grandmother...how chuffed is she with that?

And then there is Nan, who isn't so bothered about her Grandaughter's pregnancy - she has other things on her mind...where is she again?

I loved this book! The blurb quotes were right...

"Funny & moving...will have mums & daughters laughing in recognition...It's not quite happy families but all the more believable for it"

"Chock-full of Northern charm" - yes, I'm from the North, though Yorkshire, & not Lancashire as in the book but still, Nan reminds me of how my husband's Grandma used to talk -great to hear again & I'm interested to know what "non-Northerners" will make of it!

Highley recommended!

Welcome to my first bookring!

This seemed a popular choice from my shelf when I did a RABCK draw, as it didn't go to a winner, I thought I'd put it up as a bookring.

Some brief "rules":

Please journal the book when you receive it.

Please PM the next person on the list for their address soon after receiving it(this will hopefully help prevent holdups later on) If you don't hear from them within a few days, PM them again. If after a few more days you still haven't heard anything, please let me know.

Read the book! Please aim to send on within around 6 weeks ...& journal it again when you've read it to let us know what you thought of it.

Please journal the date it's posted. As it is an international ring & postage costs vary, please send by cheapest method availiable to you & don't worry how long it will take to get to the next reader. As long as we know it's on it's way that's fine... I doubt any of us will run out of reading matter in the meantime!

Hope you all enjoy this book as much as I did...

A good read. Some very funny bits that as a mum I can relate to. I don't think being a southerner made a lot of difference as there were only 1 or 2 words I didn't know. Although, I may have had an advantage as my Grampy was from Wigan and my Dad used to use some words which weren't "southern".

On the way to Boirina today.

The book was a quick and easy read. Well, easy most of the time. Sometimes they shortened the words so that I could only guess what it meant (I can't remember which person spoke like this).
There were some boring bits for me, but most of the time I enjoyed reading it. I liked that it's not the typical everything is good and everyone is happy atmosphere.

Edit August, 31st: Sent to samutsari today.

Journal Entry 12 by samutsari on Monday, September 17, 2007
Thanks for sending this Jessi626. Sounds light and fun read.

From an Asian perspective, it is not a common story of women or generations of women in my part of the world. But motherhood is something universal and many of the life's lessons here are mostly true wherever there are daughters, moms and grandmoms. I love the part when mother and daughter finally were able to make a reconnection after going through a difficult time and able to look back to their past and genealogy as well.

I have sent this today to mummifiedX5 - via surface mail (28 Sept). Hope it gets there safe.

Added November 22 - I never thought this will take a long time to reach it's destination. Tsk! My first and most possibly last to send by surface mail. Sorry about that mummifiedX5.

Sadly I think this book has decided to take it's self off on it's own travels instead of continuing as planned!

If I can get hold of another copy then I'll restart the ring from where we left off....thanks or taking part everyone!

Update August 08
Book is with MummifiedX5 & due to be sent on shortly.

Journal Entry 15 by lostbookisland on Friday, May 8, 2009
This book has washed ashore at the Lost Book Island after not being heard from for many months. This new arrival will be shown to a room and be allowed a bit of rest before being introduced to the many fun things to do here at the island.

All around there are books sipping cool drinks under shady palms while other books participate in a wide variety of beach sports. There is plenty of sand, surf and sun here for all of the lost and wayward books to enjoy.

It is hoped that very soon a new journal entry will come to rescue this book from the island and send it back out into the BookCrossing world so that it may continue on its journey. It is hoped that the new journal entry will tell all the interested parties where this book has been this long time and where it will be traveling to next.
