This is the copy I have, a September 1969 PAN paperback. I love this book! From back cover: 'You elected to come with me,' the Marquis said, ' and by God you'll obey me, if I have to lay my whip about your sides!' Heaven help any woman that Vidal's fancy lighted on, thought Mary Challoner when she discovered his plans to abduct the lovely Sophia, for the reputation of the young Marquis has fairly earned him the sobriquet 'Devil's Cub' - a tribute to the wilder excesses of his father, The Duke of Avon. Determined to protect the honour of her half-sister, Mary dons cloak, hood and mask in a daring impersonation and finds herself bound for France with the most notorious rake in Georgian London. The Many admirers of These Old Shades will be delighted to renew their acquaintance with some familiar friends. "A sparkling story of the eighteenth century, with gaming and duelling, abductions and escapes, with the scenes in London and round about and on the Continent." Edinburgh Evening News "Full of laughter and gaiety as well as excitement... a story that keeps the reader out of bed until the last page is turned." Nottingham Guardian
