I love this book! I first read it a couple years ago and thought it was absolutely hilarious. I found this copy for $1 in a used books bin so of course I snapped it up. I'll probably offer it as a bookring eventually, but first I want to read it again, so it's going in PC for now.

Just finished up, and I'm in love with this book all over again. It's sweet, and touching, and screamingly funny. It's like having a conversation. I can hear his voice; I feel like we're sitting around having a cup of tea. I love every one of the characters (well, except maybe India). They're my friends - I just hadn't seen them for a while. I'm waiting for the next installment...

And in the meantime - BOOKRING!

I'd love to share this book. All of the usual rules:

1. Journal the book when you receive it.
2. Please try to keep the book moving - say a month for each reader. If you need more time, please PM me.
3. Journal again when you mail the book.
4. Have fun!

Wow! I see what you mean, ealasaidmae, about the characters feeling like friends. I quickly fell in love with Tommy- and the rest of them as well. (I think it's the fact that Tommy, the narrator, loves them so much; you really can't like Tommy and NOT trust him in his love for the others. And it's such a great group.)

Alan's writing style really drew me in at once and made the characters and the world feel so vivid, real, and familiar. I'd go from laughing on one page to anxious and worried on the next. The subject matter was a perfect mix of fun, sexy, and thought-provoking. The whole read was incredibly satisfying and entertaining. I loved every second.

Thank you for the bookring, ealasaidmae! I'm mailing it off to BooksnBeer right now. Hope everyone else in the ring enjoys it as much as I did!

Tommy is at my house. I received this last night and I have two very small books in front of it, I'll start it very shortly.

Finished this yesterday. I agree with other journal entries and say that Tommy is a very likeable guy. The kind of friend that is never dull and slightly neurotic. To me, the book read more like a journal then a tale – or should it have been tail. All in all a fun read, even though the drugs were a little much for me.

I’ll pass this along as soon as I get the next address.

Opps. I forgot to journal that I put this into the mail on July 3rd. Tommy is on the road again.....

Journal Entry 9 by lostbookisland on Monday, January 14, 2008
This book has washed ashore at the Lost Book Island after not being heard from for many months. This new arrival will be shown to a room and be allowed a bit of rest before being introduced to the many fun things to do here at the island.

All around there are books sipping cool drinks under shady palms while other books participate in a wide variety of beach sports. There is plenty of sand, surf and sun here for all of the lost and wayward books to enjoy.

It is hoped that very soon a new journal entry will come to rescue this book from the island and send it back out into the BookCrossing world so that it may continue on its journey. It is hoped that the new journal entry will tell all the interested parties where this book has been this long time and where it will be traveling to next.
