Journal Entry 1 by aleonblue from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Monday, April 02, 2007

The 3rd installment of the Simone Kirsch (alias stripper Vivienne Leigh) has finally been released!

1st book in the series is Peepshow and 2nd book Rubdown set the scene with Simone Kirsch becoming a detective.

From the Simone Kirsch PI website:

"Simone Kirsch - ex-stripper, sex kitten, private investigator and drinker of more cheap wine than is good for her - is back, setting up her own PI agency and getting into more trouble with her clients, her lovers and the police.

Just how much trouble can one girl get into? If it's Simone Kirsch, then it's a lot.

The Simone Kirsch Detective Agency - it has a ring about it that Simone loves. And she's willing to bump, grind and shimmy until she has money enough to make it happen. But nothing every really runs quite to plan for Simone.

With enough red herrings and jaw-dropping surprises to shake even Simone, Cherry Pie is unputdownable.

Andi Fowler, a childhood friend and now journalism student, turns up at the strip joint in need of a detective yet unwilling to tell Simone anything more than she's got something explosively big on someone in hospitality. And the whole frenetically fast, chaotically connected case starts right there.

By the next afternoon, Andi vanished mysteriously. Restaurant corruption, an insane celebrity chef, an untraceable possum head, a conveniently absent boyfriend and a surprising amount of family history aside, Simone still has to deal with her continuing desire for Alex, her favourite policeman, while racing the clock in her desperate search for Andi."

Picked up at dinner tonight at O'Malleys with visiting Bookcrosser Arietty.
(Only the once not 3 times, I guess Bc was playing up!)

I started it on the train on the way home!(in between wondering what the weird guy was up to in the corner of the train with hi ipod playing loud with no earphones and strange crinkling paper noises)This book is much more interesting than the Anita Shreve I was reading!

Picked up from aleonblue this morning over a coffee at Cafe Modena. They make excellent coffee and nice to catch up again !
I really liked the first two books in the series so I'm looking forward to this one which is apparently even better. I have received 3 bookrings this week but I should be able to get through them since I'm off to Europe on the weekend and there are many hours on planes and in airports to kill.

She's in good form, Simone. True to style she gets in a lot of trouble and this time it had some serious impacts on people. There must be another book coming because the end left a lot of questions about her personal life...
Thanks for sharing aleonblue, I really like this series. The book has been to Singapore, Sweden and now Germany. I'm bringing it back to continue the bookring of course but wanted to record that it is well travelled already.

I'm really loving Simone ... you wonder how one person can get into so much trouble!!! She's so totally out of the norm for your PI/detective genre that she's fun and refreshing and you really feel for her ...

Hope there is another one soon. Thanks for making these available.

Off to silvermoonwyrm to enjoy.

7 out of 10

Okay, so the love triangle is not quite over, even though Sean never made an appearance in the book! But man, this Alex-Simone thing is driving me crazy, it's actually annoying me, notwithstanding psycho Suzy. They either just need to get it on, or stay the heck away from each other! Anyways, more about what I thought of Cherry Pie. I didn't enjoy this as much as I did with the previous two. I felt the pace was slower here and didn't build momentum till about halfway through. It was also strange that Simone was so chaste in this book! I know she was trying to be faithful to Sean, but it felt like Redhead took out the sex and then upped the violence, which didn't always necessarily worked for me because of the tragic bits. For me, the Simone Kirsch series is all about fluff entertainment: baddies get killed, girl kicks butt, saves the day and gets her man! Maybe the author was trying to add in a level of complexity but for me, it wasn't done that well and felt kinda off to me. It was still an okay read, but IMO, the first two were better and much more enjoyable.

Thanks aleonblue for sharing, all three can head home to you now! :)
