Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett

A Discworld novel. On war and gender issues. There's a war, Polly needs to find her lost brother, so she cuts her hair (the easy part) and pretends to be a boy, enlisting because the army is desperate enough to take young boys. She ends up in a strange regiment of nervous young boys and a vampire under the control of legendary Sergeant Jackrum and everything turns quite wacky with this Monstrous Regiment.

Somehow I didn't journal this when I got it. I have read it before but was very happy to reread it.

In fact I have read it a couple of times. It is the sort of book you want to read through really fast to see what happens, and then to read more slowly to enjoy the writing and spend time with the characters.

I think this is one of my favourite Pratchett book, exploring serious issues like war, gender inequality, politics wiht the typical Terry Pratchet humour. I do hope we get another book featuring Polly Perks aka Ozzer and Maladict and co.

Passing it on to davidseven.

Oops. Knew I forgot something.

I have already read this book, and still forgot to journal that I had received it.

Well I have, and I have read it again. Still good. Will probably hang onto it for a while and read it again again before releasing it in a worthy manner.
