This was exactly what I thought it would be and exactly what I needed. And also, a tiny bit surprising :)

What I mean is, it was a nice, fluffy piece of chick lit -- a bit of junk food for the brain, as it were -- but also had a surprising bit of heart, too. Honestly, it was charming, and although it had several of the requisite components of chick lit (thankfully, though, Emily wasn't a plus size!), it was just a tiny bit smarter than some, and I had to give it extra points for being all about Pride & Prejudice.

There were a few times where I was a tiny bit disappointed at Emily's responses to things in England -- I mean, she's well-read and knows all of Jane Austen's works, but doesn't know what cigarettes are called there?

The cheezy "dumb American" bits notwithstanding, you have to love the way the author weaves the original P&P story throughout Emily's. The assumptions, snap judgements, comments about looking "plain" ... they parallel the original story so well, you have to enjoy it. And in true Austen fashion, the people with bit parts are real characters, too. You have to love Maeve and Rose, for one thing.

I give this two thumbs up for some lite reading with plenty of literary undertones for the book snob in me :)
