Ellie Cavanaugh was only seven years old, when her fifteen-year old sister, andrea, was murdered near their home in a rural village in New York state. There were three suspects: Rob Westerfield, nineteen-year-old scion of a wealthy, prominent family whom andrea has been secretly dating; Paul Stroebel, a sixteen-year old schoolmate, who had a crush on Andrea and Will Nebels, a local handyman in his 40s.

When Rob Westerfield, convicetd of murdering andrea, comes up for parole, Ellie, now an investigative reporter for an Atlanta newspaper, protests his release. She starts writing a book that will conclusively prove Rob's guilt - however with each discovery for the book, whe comes closer to a confrontation with a desperate killer.

interesting plot, however I didn't like Ellie too much. To my mind, her way of thinking was too American to be understood by someone from Europe and besdies that, I do not believe, that someone in danger would reject all attempts to help and protect her, as Ellie did with her Dad and her brother.
Nevertheless I was never sure, whether the murderer could have been Paulie instead of Rob, but I liked the justice at the end. (To some degree a "happy end").
