reading for Olympic Challenge - Iceland
I read this book but felt locked out of its comedy. I found it neither bitting or funny but only words on a page. I would love to discuss this book with someone to see what I missed.

The books arrived safely today in Helsinki. Thanks a lot for sending them our way! Have been wanting to read some Laxness since I stayed one year in Iceland, now I have one book at home ;-)
Looking forward to digging in there, and hope I'll like it!

This book made me think so much about the way the persons on the farm were thinking where I stayed most of my year in Iceland. Laxness has very funnily described the ideas behind the Icelandic society and the way people think in it. The year this book was written is also very special, if you think that it seemed already in those years that the mentality in Iceland about single mothers was all different than what you would have expected in the rest of Europe. Was a very nice read, something I expected from a Nobel Prize winner, but still wondering how much gets lost to readers that have not experienced Iceland themselves. Found if very nice of the translator to add small remarks about what is mentionned of the old Icelandic Sagas and habits, so that you would get the idea behind certain things!
This book stays now a bit with me, as we will have a "Prize"-game coming up in Autumn here in Finland ;-)

An Icelandic book, satirical, how could I resist?
