Selected for Olympic Challenge - Burundi
I was afraid of this book. I have been reading a tremendous amount misery in the last couple of months, good reading but heavy on the heart. By the time I closed the back cover of this book, I believed in the good of this world and in life in general.
I'm excited for it to go to hobbit. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did.

This came in today's mail - thanks, Hendertuckian! I wasn't expecting such a nice new hardcover book! I have to admit that I've read enough about genocide and war in this challenge that the title makes me a bit, hmmm, reluctant but I'm glad to hear that you found it not depressing. I'll put it onto my stack of to-be-reads with an easier mind.

I just finished this yesterday and I also found it to be a very positive and interesting book. Although Gilbert related the horrible things that happened to him, he also spent a lot of time talking about the rest of his life: being a young child, his time in boarding school, his running, and his move to the United States.

I will look for a way to pass this on to another bookcrosser.

On her wishlist is Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust by Immaculee Ilibagiza and the titles are similar enough that I hope she'll also be interested in this one.
