The strange, heartwrenching, and exhilarating tale of a woman named Cupcake.
Twice orphaned, once by the death of her mother, and once by the child welfare system who separates her from her stepfather and places her with a sadistic foster parent. But there comes a time when Cupcake's story shifts from tearjerker to a dark comic blues opera. As Cupcake's troubles grow, so do her voice and spirit.
Young Cupcake learns to survive by turning tricks, downing hard liquor, partying like a rock star and ingesting every druyg she could find while hitchhiking up and down the California coast. She stumbled into gangbanging, drug dealing, hustling, prostitution,, theft, and eventually the best scam of all, a series of 9-5 jobs. Her life starts going downhill and she eventually finds herself living behind a dumpster.
Astonishingly, with the help of a cobbled together family of fellow addicts and a series of friends and strangers who come to her aid at pivotal moments, she slowly transformed her life from the inside out.

Came in the Mail today as a part of the Non-Fiction Swap. Thanks LML!~ :-)
I picked this up a few days ago and began reading. I really taken by the book, and couldn't put it down. The story was quite compelling. Although I felt that the book slows down toward the middle.
Anyway, it was a good read and I would suggest for someone else interested in non-fiction to give this a go.
