I received this one for ELLE magazine's June non-fiction jury.

If I Am Missing or Dead is like sitting down with a girlfriend for a heart to heart talk. Latus totally opens her life and thoughts to the reader in a convincing and unassuming way. You care about her and want her to succeed both in her career and in her personal relationships. It reveals how easily women can get sucked into a negative cycle of relationships with men and lose themselves in the process.

After reading this book, I am extremely appreciative of the men in my life, especially my dad and my husband. It has really opened my eyes to the patterns of male relationships that are developed by a daughter's relationship to her father. My dad has been unconditionally supportive of me my whole life and always made me feel like a treasure. This has allowed me, demanded of me, to choose a husband who treats me with the same love and respect. While usually this just feels normal for me, reading If I Am Missing or Dead has helped me deepen my appreciation for these wonderful men and realize that this is not the reality for millions of other women.

This book arrived safe and sound in Buffalo, NY today. I'll pass it along to Aceofhearts and Hoserlauren next time I see either of them per the post-it on the book.
