From Amazon:

The story begins with a bang as protagonist Mary Minor "Harry" Harristeen, postmistress of tiny Crozet, Virginia, happens upon a dying man whose throat has been slashed. As if that weren't bad enough, he also had rabies. Snooping around the crime scene, Harry finds a ring belonging to a long-missing woman. Are the two connected? This is just one of the many puzzles that unfold in this suspenseful tale that also involves the disappearance of a famous studhorse. Along the way, Brown imparts significant knowledge about horse breeding and dispels many common myths about rabies. Fans who think of Harry as a friend will appreciate how Brown catapults the young farmer out of her comfort zone, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in her life. Admirers of Mrs. Murphy will enjoy the expanding repertoire of animals she converses with: snakes, owls, mice, swallows, and foxes. In a somewhat uneven series, Brown comes into her own here; never has she seemed more comfortable with her characters. The pick of the litter.

The book had arrived yesterday while I was at a seminar. Some months ago I read one book in this series and I liked it a lot. There seems to be those beautiful pictures in this book, too! I'll read this one soon. Thank you!

Very nice story and nice animals, too. Well, maybe there were too many deaths for my liking but I enjoyed reading the book anyway.

I posted the book yesterday in slow mail. Let's see how long it takes for the book to reach Iez in The Netherlands.

This book is a suitable candidate for Guinaveve's Keep Them Moving Challenge

Well this was pretty good. It took a bit to figure out the voice of the writer. I kept getting mixed up between the humans and the animals. Interesting aspect of racing and some real detail on that. Sort of reminded me of a Charlotte's Web with mystery and intrigue. Hope you enjoy it Snufkin. Finally will go out this week with my package for you.

A lovely little detective story. I love Rita Mae Brown's characters, especially the animals. The information on horse breeding was very interesting - I never realised what a complicated business it can be.

Sorry for keeping it so long! I'll post it on to Moonblue this week.

Update 22 August 2008: Posted to Moonblue today.

Journal Entry 18 by moonblue from Grahamstown, Eastern Cape South Africa on Sunday, August 31, 2008
The book arrived yesterday. Thanks snufkin81 and Feodora. I have heard of cat cozies but have never read one so am intrigued to see what it is like.

I will try to get it read this week.

Journal Entry 19 by moonblue from Grahamstown, Eastern Cape South Africa on Thursday, September 18, 2008
This was an interesting and well written mystery. I must admit that I found the emphasis on animals a bit much, but then I am not a pet person:)

I prefer Brown's other books, but am glad to have read this, which was a bit of light fun. And the first time I have ever read a book co-written with a cat.

I will send it on as soon as i get teh address for the next person.
