Strange little story about a man born with a supernatural sense of smell, but no human odor of his own. Wonderful descriptive writing, plot seemed thin but I guess it's one of those books you have to chew over to get the meaning out of it.

Received from Paperbackswap. Thanks much -- I just heard about this on the forums and thought I'd try reading it. It's not a typical book for me, so we'll see how it goes.

What an extremely weird book this was. I enjoyed the writing, though I have to say that I really hated the typesetting. While I know that's a trivial complaint, this book looked like they took a paperback version that was poorly typeset a decade ago and reprinted directly onto new pages (which, I suppose, is probably exactly what happened). Separate from the physical appearance, I enjoyed the story, but won't be rushing to recommend the book to others. I'm sort of curious about the movie since the book was so focused on internal monologue and created unusual and nonintuitive motives for many of its characters. The book is going in the mail to darkpunkangel, who won it in an "almost live swap" on bookobsessed.

I really like the book, and am curious about the movie...I think I'll go watch it sometime.
