Blurb:
Monica Jensen, once a high school 'golden girl' and now a numb an bewildered divorcée of twenty-nine, has come to rural Pennsylvania to teach and start a new life. There she meets the charismatic Sheila Trask, a apinter and the widow of a famous sculptor. Sheila is the local eccentric, living in alternate splendour and squalour, self-dramatising, self-destructive and always unpredictable.
The two women are as different as sun and moon, but a close if uneasy friendship develops. Monica is the weaker, unsure of herself, hungry for the approval of her older, more sophisticated, richer friend, and in spite of her initial resistance, she finds herself drawn more and more into Sheilas whimsical and sometimes dangerous world. With unforeseen consequences...
I read the book just once, about fifteen years ago, and remember little except a feeling of unease.
This book is my #2 in this BookXerpting Qantaqas Digitales BookXerpting and will travel now to nuriayasmin - I hope you like it.

Arrived here today - together with a really cute cat card. Thanks a lot for both, CaptainCarrot.
I'm not quite sure what to think of this book. It was interesting to read but I don't think I understood the author's intention very well and I surely didn't understand the end.

This book was sent to me as a surprise by nuriayasmin along with a book that I was expecting as part of a bookring/ray. I love surprise especially when they come in the form of books. I will read as soon as I read the book that's part of the ring. Thanks for the surprise.!
I finished the book over the weekend, as I don't have internet at home wasn't able to make an entry until now. I enjoyed the book even though the relationship between the two women occaisionally made me angry. There were times when all I wanted to do was tell Monica to get a back bone and stand up to Sheila, whereas I wanted to slap Sheila and try to get her to see the effect she has on the people around her. Yet of course if either of them did what I wanted them to do that wouldn't be a completely different story. Even though the story made me mad in some places I would still recommend for others to read.
