Found in my goody bag. How generous of Arty Bees to give us books plus vouchers and a discount! I just wish I'd had more time to browse through their shop - I did find a treasure there in the short time I had, though.

Seriously average. The story of a "navy wife" living in Auckland in the 1970s (? I think - there wasn't a very strong sense of time to the story (and I don't mean by this that the story was timeless, but that the author just didn't do a good job of conveying the period)) who has an affair with her husband's superior officer. It could have been quite good, but unfortunately it wasn't - the story wandered around and progressed in fits and starts, and the overall impression I was left with was of vagueness.
I've read one other book by Barbara Anderson, Long Hot Summer, and looking back at the journal entry I made on it, I see I was equally unsatisfied (and I notice I made a similar comment about her lack of ability to fix a period).
I think Anderson just made it to my "authors to avoid" list.
