Catnap: A Midnight Louie Mystery

Picked up at the Book Thing.
From Amazon.com (Library Journal) -
Midnight Louie, whose cat-memoirs bracket the discovery of a murdered book publisher at the American Booksellers Association meeting, "helps" public relations person Temple Barr discover the murderer's identity. Las Vegas provides a slightly surreal backdrop for Temple's smooth friends and sly acquaintances, who alternately provide assistance or muck things up. Midnight Louie's viewpoint adds humor (the Baker & Taylor cats have Scottish accents) without straining the reader's credibility too much.

I really enjoyed this, the 1st in the Midnight Louie series. I enjoyed the setting in Las Vegas, esp. at the ABA convention. Although this will be going into my Cat Stories bookbox, another copy of this would be a good addition to my Bookish Books bookbox since there's quite a bit of background info about the publishing biz.
I'm looking forward to reading more in this series, esp. since I've read most of the Cat Who... series. I was afraid (since I don't like hard-boiled detective stories) there would be too much of that here, but there isn't; Midnight Louie only "writes" the occasional chapter, just enough to offset the rest of the story. And I may be able to tolerate his term of "dolls" better than dames, esp. since he's otherwise such a thoroughly engaging character.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Mailed out in my Cat Stories bookbox. Enjoy!
Cats and booksellers! I just had to take this from the Cat Stories bookbox!
Later: A lot of fun, from Louie's snarky commentary ("I always was a bookish sort... I like nothing better than curling up on a good book") to his wonderful abilities as an escape artist, not to mention all the behind-the-scenes publisher/bookseller tidbits. And I got a kick out of his casual references to his "literary friends", including his "hard-shelled pal archie" {grin}. [This isn't the first book I've read with an ABA convention setting, btw; Asimov's Murder at the ABA was fun, too, but it didn't have as many cats!]
