Charlie Asher is a pretty normal guy with a normal life, married to a bright and pretty woman who actually loves him for his normalcy. They're even about to have their first child. Yes, Charlie's doing okay - until people start dropping dead around him, and everywhere he goes a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Charlie Asher, it seems has been recruited for a new position: as Death.

It's a dirty job. But, hey! Somebody's gotta do it.

This story is as wacky and perhaps even a little more heartfelt than the other Christopher Moore books I have read. Not quite as funny as Bloodsucking Fiends or You Suck, but Charlie is a sweet guy and I couldn't wait to find out how things turn out for him. If you've read some of Moore's other books, a few familiar faces pop up as a nice added bonus. All in all a fun read!

Even though I found Charlie to be a little annoying at times, I still enjoyed this book. The only other Christopher Moore book that I've read (so far) is Lamb, and while I don't think this one was as funny as Lamb I still reccommend it.
Thanks for sharing!

This was a funny and poignant novel about finding life in death. I liked the characters Charlie Asher, Sophie, Minty Fresh, and the Emperor of San Francisco. I especially liked how Charlie finds courage to face his fears as he both confronts the "sewer harpies" and learns how to be a good father to Sophie.

I finished reading this in the *early* hours of this morning. I really, really enjoyed the book, but the ending was kind of sad. I can't believe that Charlie never realized who the Luminatis was. I'll get this in the mail asap.
