A mythic warrior who'll stop at nothing to possess her . . .

After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.

A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy . . .

Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents -- until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae -- and their notorious dark desires -- ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.

An all-consuming desire . . .

Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?

5 out of 10

This book was only okay. There's always too much going on, too much world building that's not clearly explained. Valkyrie, Lykae, vampires...it gets really convoluted and I thought I had missed a couple of books in the series even though this is the 1st book.

I didn't find Lachlan that likable. Being in love and possessive of Emma is one thing, but virtually imprisoning her and trying to keep her from her family? Emma's foster mother Annika is no better, refusing to let Lachlan see Emma to "protect" her. Neither Lachlan nor Annika seem to care much about what Emma wants, and that made it hard to care about Emma and Lachlan's happy ending.

5 out of 10

I didn't love this book. In fact, there are several reasons why I actually didn't like it very much. I'm not keen on the super-powerful male who dominates the seemingly helpless female. (Yes, Emma does show her strength by the end.) I'm not keen on the woman being held captive but falling in love with her jailer. And I'm not keen on the way that the full moon just magically created a complete change of heart/mind/soul in Emma and that all her struggles to not fall for Lachlain just disappeared as soon as the moon turned full. That just seemed much too easy after such a build-up with the struggle between them.
