Off to Arizona!
I was so surprised to receive this in the mail with three other Jill Mansell books from Flambard of Horsham, West Sussex, UK. I was expecting one book and it was fun and exciting to receive four! I am going on a long plane trip in a couple of days and I'm bringing this one with me.
Thank you, Flambard!
Thank you, Flambard!
I read this book awhile ago. It was another fun Jill Mansell book to read. The main characters are two sisters and their mother. It just occurred to me that this could be a modern re-telling of Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. The older sister is sensible and responsible whose husband has abandoned her. She is still grieving. The younger sister breaks off with her fiancee at the beginning of the book with no regrets. The mother is a modern woman who was left to raise her two daughters alone by an irresponsible and selfish husband. However, the book does not end up in a manner similar to Sense and Sensibility. There are numerous male characters involved in the story who provide romantic interests for the sisters and mother.
I found that I felt a lot of compassion for the older sister and somewhat less for the mother. The younger sister was selfish but was still presented in a way that you could like her or tolerate her.

This arrived in the mail today. I have a book to finish and then I will start on it.
This is yet another great Jill Mansell novel. I have yet to read a book of her's that I didn't love. It's a shame that you can't find her books in the States.
I've already PMed coffeeaddict3 for her address and will mail the book out once finances allow it.
Thank you for putting this out on a ring, tabby-cat-owner.

This was a very enjoyable book. I found that I didn't have alot of compassion for the Mother in this book. I found her carefree attitude annoying. The sisters were well written characters, I found them very predictable but that could just be because the characters were well developed. There sure is slim pickens as far as the single men are concerned in the town of Trezale!! Only one "good" man in the ENTIRE town!! Good grief!
There are a few more Mansell books that I haven't read yet, I'm going to try to track them down.

today i stayed home and joy the postman did come and would you believe it he rang the upstairs bell only, gave my mother-in-law a letter (i asked, no nothing for me) and went... then hubby comes back from work with two parcels for me!!! the postman had assumed that i was not at home and had left my books in the mail box! (or he knew that i would be more delighted to see hubby if he had some books with him :))
soooooooooooooo (since i know you really wanted to know all this :)) the book is here and as you can see from my jabbering i am very delighted and also am going to start it immediately (got one book that needs a bit of break from me)
also i see that i am the end of the ray, if it's ok then i would be giving this to hengameh for a read and maybe next my mom or oceanss (if we ever see her :))
and then thanks so much tabby-cat-owner for another mansell ring (and what a cute photo on your shelf and also WOW, that's the most red country map i've seen, great work !!) and thanks Wandering-B for sending the book and also for a lovely postcard of hong kong (ahhhh the places these books go!)
and well as you can see i'm definitely over-excited today! thanks!!

thanks so much, very fun as usual with jill mansell books. though, also i think as usual with her book, the really bad person is like really bad (i definitely couldn't understand the husband) and also some of the things the main character put up with or believed was well a bit over the top, i mean, why? why? put up with all that. but then as usual with her books, it was most fun and also very smoothly written. passed on to hengameh as she's a mansell fan also. thanks so much
