Tradeback
The year is 1327. Franciscans in a wealthy Italian abbey are suspected of heresy, and Brother William of Baskerville arrives to investigate. When his delicate mission is suddenly overshadowed by seven bizarre deaths, Brother William turns dective. His tools are the logic of Aristotal, the theology of Aquinas, the empirical insights of Roger Bacon-all sharpened to a glistening edge by wry humor and a ferocious curiosity.

Journal Entry 3 by valerief from Queens, New York USA on Monday, May 28, 2007
This was in my stack of unread mail. Should finish in a month and a half.

Thanks!

Journal Entry 4 by valerief from Queens, New York USA on Tuesday, July 24, 2007
Still making my way through this one. I'm finding it a bit long (maybe also because the print is quite small), but I should have this done by the end of the week. Zosime has sent me her address, so it will be mailed promptly. Thanks!

Journal Entry 5 by valerief from Queens, New York USA on Saturday, August 4, 2007
As mentioned, I found this book quite drawn-out. The solving of the mystery was interspersed with Catholic theological and philosophical debate. The postscript at the end, with the author's commentary, also bored me. Having studied classical and modern languages in high school, I did, however, enjoy the Latin and other foreign phrases with which the characters peppered their conversations. Was going to loan this to my boyfriend but thought that he probably wouldn't enjoy it as much.

This is going to zosime on Monday. (Due to the new postal regulations, I have to mail this at the post office.)

Journal Entry 6 by zosime from Marshfield, Wisconsin USA on Tuesday, August 14, 2007
This arrived safe and sound today. Thank you, Valerief! I enjoyed Umberto Eco''sBaudolino and have been looking forward to more of his writing.

I start reading this as soon as I can. Thank you for including me in this bookring, Nuttyreader!

Journal Entry 7 by zosime from Marshfield, Wisconsin USA on Saturday, September 1, 2007
I definitely enjoyed this book. The philosophy and theology did get a bit heavy at times, but it was also fascinating. I wish I understood enough Latin to get the gist of all those quotes, though! The mystery pulled me right in, and the setting was fabulous. The author's commentary bored me silly though, I just skimmed it for interesting historical bits. I'll look for more of Umberto Eco's novels, but I may steer clear of his non fiction!

I mailed the book to Nawoo82 this morning.

Journal Entry 8 by nawoo82 from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Wednesday, September 12, 2007
I have received the book yesterday. Thanks a lot!
I must say I wasn't expecting it to be such a big book! I'll finish my current read and then start on this one. Although I read a lot I'm quite a slow reader but I'll try my best to get this book moving within a month.

Journal Entry 9 by nawoo82 from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Tuesday, October 30, 2007
I'm sorry I've taken so long with this book. I just came back from my honeymoon so the last few weeks have been pretty busy.

I have absolutely loved this book! It was a bit difficult to get into it at first, because of all the theological discussions which really lost me (my religious references are very poor). After a few dozen pages though it became quite difficult to put the book down.

I have learned quite a lot reading this book and would highly recommend it. It is a great story and the writing style is amazing.
I haven't read the author's notes (I never do) so I cannot comment on that.

Funny little anecdote: my mother-in-law came from Australia for the wedding and guess what she was reading on the plane? "The Name of the Rose"! Imagine our surprise when we met in Paris and realised we were both reading the same book!

I have RowanneM's addres so I will post the book tomorrow.

Journal Entry 10 by RowanneM on Monday, February 11, 2008
I could have sworn I'd journalled this when it arrived... I swear I'm getting more forgetful as I get older!! Anyway, I really struggled to get into this one and only managed about 1/4 of the way through before I had to give up. It wasn't so much the story that I had a problem with but some of the writing style.

Have Pm'd dg7500 for their address and will get this out in the mail to them as soon as they reply!

Thanks for offering this book to me nuttyreader!

Journal Entry 11 by wingdg7500wing from Lancaster, Pennsylvania USA on Monday, April 7, 2008
Arrived safely in today's mail. I'm about 1/2 way through another bookring at the moment, but this will go on top of MtTBR as next in the reading order.

Journal Entry 12 by wingdg7500wing from Lancaster, Pennsylvania USA on Tuesday, May 6, 2008
I've wanted to read this book for quite awhile now, but it's just not working for me....I've picked it up, and put it back down more times than I can count over the past few weeks. It's taking more energy & concentration than I'm able to give it at the moment, so rather than hold up the ring any longer, I'm just going to pass this along unread. Hopefully, one day I'll be able to come back and re-visit the book when I have less things on my plate, and can truly give the book the time & attention that it needs. I have ealasaidmae's mailing info, and will get this in the mail within the next few days.

It's here!

Journal Entry 15 by ealasaidmae from New Orleans, Louisiana USA on Sunday, June 1, 2008
I finally made it through this book! I had thought I was destined never to read it. This is my third attempt: the first time I left the book on the sill of an open window in my college dorm room and it was ruined by rain; the second time I left it on a plane. I'm so happy to know, finally, what happened! I have a great deal of respect for Umberto Eco and always enjoy his books, both fiction and non-fiction. This was no different. I would love to have a library like the one here. Except that I would be happy to share mine. Thank you, nuttyreader!

I have bartonz's address and will mail this first thing on Monday.

Sending to ivylibra224. I was holding up this bookring so I got another copy for myself

Journal Entry 19 by ivylibra224 from Kimberling City, Missouri USA on Tuesday, November 18, 2008
I had forgotten all about this book ring. Well, as soon as I finish the book I'm into now I'll get started on it.

Journal Entry 20 by ivylibra224 from Kimberling City, Missouri USA on Thursday, January 8, 2009
I'm not sure what I expected from this book so I really don't know if I got it. A murder mystery set in an abbey in the 1300s as told by an old monk who was just a novice at the time. There where parts of the mystery I found very intriguing; as well as the differing attitudes of the monks. I don't think I would have made it through this book had it not been on the 1,001 list though. I found it to be difficult reading and I had to have absolute quiet while I was focused on it. I hope the next Eco book on my list is a bit easier on the mind. I'll be sending this off as soon as I have an address for the next member.

I caught it and I am reading it at the moment!

Journal Entry 26 by cat207 on Thursday, January 21, 2010
Arrived in today's mail. Thank you Martjxox, and nuttyreader for sharing your book. I'd given this one up for dead!

I have a couple of ring / ray books to read before I get to this one, but shouldn't be too long.

Journal Entry 27 by cat207 on Saturday, February 20, 2010
It's a relief to finally be finished this one. I enjoyed it but feel it would have been more appreciated if I could have had a few lengthy reading periods in which to immerse myself.

I am awaiting an address for teggers.

Journal Entry 28 by cat207 on Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Teggers has asked to be skipped. I'll PM gringuitica for an address.

Journal Entry 29 by cat207 on Tuesday, March 2, 2010
I haven't been able to contact gringuitica, and nuttyreader doesn't want the book back - so I'll try the ring/ray forum to see if there's any interest.

No interest there. I'll have to wild release it. Hope it finds a good reader.

I had seen the film Name of the Rose about five years ago. So I was expecting much the same as the film. But I was pleasantly surprised that it was better. Thanks again to Cat207 for sharing it with me (and apologies for incorrectly writing your last name on the last parcel I sent to you). Will either RACBK it in one of my future releases or release it in the wild.
