The Talisman of Troy

This is one of Manfredi's minor books, but since all the others are so good this turns out to be a good read too.
It has a slow pace but that is related to the way he intends to tell the story, like an Homeric epic tale.
The thing that has always fascinated me about Greek ancient history is the way the historical facts and figures walk hand in hand with Greek mythology, and mix very naturaly.
There's a Glosary at the end of the book that is most helpfull.
What if the true reason behind the Trojan war wasn't the gorgeous Helen, but a sacred talisman that brings invincibility to its owner?
This is the story of Diomedes, one of the last greek kings that survived the Trojan war, on returning home he is the victim of a big plot to kill him perpetrated by the woman he loves.
Diomedes escapes and heads out to sea to try and find a new land in which he can build a new kingdom, but, like in a greek tragedy, things are not easy and this stuborn king has to go thru hell and high water to obtain is goal.
A very well researched historical novel and a diferent take on the Homeric tales.
