The is book 1 in Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy. I enjoyed reading this book a couple of years ago and have decided to send it on a book spiral with books 2 and 3. I'll then read them again at the end of the spiral.

Welcome to His Dark Materials International Book Spiral
This spiral started February 7th 2007.
If you wish to join the ring, please PM me and I will add you.
Member/Location
How it works
- If you wish to be added to the list, please PM me with your location and postage preferences.
- We will kick off once we have 5(ish) members.
- I will send out each book in the trilogy (Northern Lights, The Amber Spyglass, The Subtle Knife) at approximately 1 month intervals (or sooner if requested).
- You will be sending the books to the person who appears after you in the list, so you need to PM them to get their address.
- Not everyone wants to read all three books so please check the individual list for each book to see who you're sending to. You may be sending each book to a different person!
- It's not a race, but please read and send the book on as speedily as you can.
- Please journal the book once you have received it (so we all know where it currently is) and again when you have read it (so we know what you thought of it).
- If you're the last person on the list, then please PM me and I'll decide whether to ask for new members or get it sent back to me.

Posted to fushmush today. Enjoy!
It has arrived. Thanks for sharing!
An enjoyable young adult read. Lyra is a feisty and admirable heroine. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.
Will PM the next in line.

Thanks very much for sharing this KLL. It's a good, intelligent book with plenty of both symbolism and pace. Certainly finding it gripping so far, can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
PMing lane1088 for address.

On its way to lane1088! It's gone by surface mail so should be there in a few weeks.
This book was waiting for me when I got home today. Of course, when I read the back cover it sounded very familiar so I pulled out the book that it sounded like "The Golden Compass". Then I went online and found that the british version was titled Northern lights but the american version was called Golden Compass. Same book different titles. That is just too funny. So the dilemna is do I read my copy or this one--LOL!!
Sent to msjoanna today by media mail.
Arrived today in NYC. Looking forward to this one, but in the midst of another bookring book, so may take me a few days or a week to get started. Should be no problem to finish quickly though.
What a wonderful story. This is one of those books that sucks you in and leaves you desperate to keep reading. The characters were so much fun and the images so vivid that whenever I set the book down, I found myself feeling bad for having left the characters in whatever perilous situation I had be reading about.
I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series. Thanks for including me on this ring.
The book will go in the mail to Rrrcaron as soon as I get her address. Update (6/1): I've sent 2 PMs, but no address yet. Perhaps Rrrcaron is out of town. Will try again next week. Update (6/7): Hooray! Rrrcaron was on vacation and has sent her address. The book will go in the mail tomorrow or next week.

At last -- on its way to rrrcaron.
I received this in the mail yesterday. I have a few to read beforehand, but it shouldn't take long.

I loved this book! Usually, I'm not into the fantasy genre, and I was reluctant to start it, but once I did I couldn't put it down. I grew bored with Harry Potter(sorry fans), but with this series I am anxiously awaiting book 2. Thanks so much for sharing! Pming the next in line and will mail global priority as soon as I receive an address.

Received this in person from silvermoonwyrm last night at meet-up. She only passed me the first book in the series as she said it's the only book she has received so far. I have a few bookrings before this one, but I will try to get to it soon!
I have now read the first two books in this series and they are engrossing reads indeed. I am almost thankful that I have discovered these as an adult as I wonder if I would have been able to grasp some of these complex themes if I had read these books as a child. Anyway, back to Northern Lights, Philip Pullman has created a very intriguing and fascinating universe with a delightful protagonist to take us through it. I was drawn into Lyra's world, and was engrossed in the book as I read about the various adventures/mishaps that happened to her through this quest that she set out on with her dæmon. Thanks KLL for sharing, I will pass this book on, together with its companion, to the next bookcrosser in line.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry! I thought I had already mailed out the books to sally906 after KLL told me that she was continuing the bookrings, but I was obviously having a brain fart as I found the first two books in the series still sitting on my bookshelf. Apologies for the delay, it's heading out via Express Post right away! Tracking # is: SV7773195.

turned up at my postbox just before Christmas. I'd forgotten I was on this bookring, but very glad to see I'm last as there are two of them and I'm trying to get through another couple of bookrings inbetween study material.
Thank you. I'm sure I shall enjoy them.

I did enjoy this book. I thought the tom-boy character of Lyra was perfectly drawn - she was totally believable.
I thought the use of the daemons was quite a charming device.
I couldn't warm to the concept of giant talking polar bears wearing armour though.
Thanks for sharing and this book is winging it way home
