The Master Quilter
9 journalers for this copy...
The members of the Elm Creek Quilters set out to commemorate their matriarch Sylvia's recent wedding and her years of devotion to quilting and Elm Creek Manor with a bridal quilt. Sylvia's friends and students agree to contribute blocks that express how Sylvia has inspired them. But the project hits snags when the local quilters are confronted with their own personal problems, including a troubled marriage, a potential business failure, a budding romance, and new career prospects. Long-buried secrets, animosities, and yearnings rise to the surface as the women struggle to meet their quilting deadline and maintain the close circle of friendship that has sustained them.
I'm planning on sending this out as a bookray.

Got the book today. Thanks lauraloo29. I have the prequels from the library ready to go, so the reading marathon starts tonight.....and on the chance that I love this series, the rest was ordered from the library, so hopefully those will come in on the bookmobile by the time I finish this one. It's so much easier to read a series one after another.
Just an update. I finished book 1 in the series, so now I at least know who Sylvia, Sarah & Matt are. I'm now reading The Christmas Quilt - out of the series order, but according to the order that the author suggests. Then on to this one.
Updated 5/23. Well, I tried & was hopelessly lost on page 25. I backed up and am almost done the Cross Country Quilters, which has many of the same characters in this book. Since it's Memorial Day weekend, I get an extra day of reading time! I post when I really start this book, but if it's like the others, it's a very quick read.

Started the book on the train today! I tried to read it after I finished each of the prequels in this series, but was still getting lost in the names.
Finally caught up in the series last night, so I have some idea of who these women are that are making the quilt patches for Sylvia! The previous books could have been read out of order, but this one brings a lot of people and threads together. These books go fast, so will likely be on it's way overseas early next week.

Finished the book today - will be packaged tonight for shipment to Annelis when I get her address confirmation.
A departure from the writing style of the author's previous books - in some chapters, the same story is told from the different quilters point of view. The book centers around the Elm Creek Quilt Camp staff contacting & collecting 140 squares from the different previous campers and other quilters that had met Sylvia, the master quilter, so they could make her a wedding quilt (since Sylvia surprised them by marrying late in life in a previous book). Unfortunately, the secrecy of keeping the project from Sylvia also seeps into the Elm Creek staff friendships, esp when they really needed to lean on one another.
Since this is in the middle of the series, if you want to know about the primary characters in more detail, read the first book of the series first. The remaining books bring more depth to the characters, but don't need to be read before this one.

The books have arrived safe and sound. Thank you very much for both of them! I'll take the Lady Bugs to Celia Library's children department.
I happen to have Chania's address already, so I can give her a surprise by sending this book after reading it. This seems a fine reading for midsummer - outside if it is not raining.

The book is on its way to Chania with the postcard and the picture of quilt.
I liked the story very much. Many times I felt my fingers itching. I wanted to sew. If not a quilt which I have never tried then a tactile picture book of fabrics which I have made several. I do hope I had time to sew! It is easier to find time for reading. I can read on my travels to and from work, but I cannot take my sewing machine with me on a train. Sometimes I do some needle work on train but not often.
This is my #61 in 2009 KEEP THEM MOVING CHALLENGE arranged by Guinaveve.

Lots of secrets and also quite a lot of sorrow and worries in this book - fortunately things aren't always as bad as they look at first. I enjoyed this, as well as the other books in series, and once again learned to know the quilters bit more.
Sending this to the Netherlands next.

The book arrived during my holiday, I found it waiting for me on my return. Thanks for sharing it Lauraloo29. I will try to start reading it soon, but it might take a bit longer, as the bookrings/rays start arriving all at once....

Finished the book a few days ago. Loved the stories from different angles, but missed out on some details as I skipped a few books in the series. Will catch up with those later.

Thank you very much for being kind enough to think of me for this book. I'll also be reading them out of order! I have two of them to read both kindly released by the wonderful lauraloo so will make these priority to get started on. Thanks again wibba!
Time has got away from me and I've had this book unread for far too long. It's time to make it available and find a new reader for it!
