Got the book from Margih today. Thanks! I hope to start reading asap; meanwhile, I can't believe I'm the only participant in this ring so far!?
From the back cover:
Dude gives you the ammunition: why it's time for regime change at Number Ten; the whoppers spun to wage war on Iraq and make a killing; the 'special relationship' between George of Arabia and the Bin Ladens; obscene tax breaks for the rich—and how Mike's going to get everybody together to get rid of Dubya. Not to mention how to stop terrorism (stop terrorizing Third World countries!!!), talk to your conservative brother-in-law and get non-voters voting. It's time to stop bitching, get reading—and get your country back.
Shocking, devastating, genuinely funny (Guardian)
Well... yeah. That sums it up pretty nicely. Moore's introducing us to the warped world of GWB in an equally warped way. It's definitely a positive sign to have someone shake & stir the nation, but I'm not at all convinced by the 'alternative' model (IF ANY) presented here.
Some of the puns had me grinning, but mostly the stretch of repetitive provocation masked in quite a variety of entertainment styles—ranging from a menu of whoppers ('The Iraq War Combo Meals') to a vision of Bush the Fourth running the country, and from a letter from God to 'Bush Removal and Other Spring Cleaning Chores'—reeked of an underestimation of the people. I'm almost scared to think of the masses who might rise and rely on this as their sole ammunition.
Also, I'm beginning to doubt Moore's agenda. Seriously: will he ever get past the point of giving us a mere good laugh? He has a powerful message all right; he's fighting propaganda with mouthfuls of counter-propaganda; with millions of copies sold, he seems to be everyone's favorite troublemaker... Still, it's all rhetorics he's feeding his audiences, minimally peppered with most basic advice for grassroots citizen action.
I'm also wondering who he'll tackle next, after the 2008 election. (The cost of the race and everybody involved, maybe--if it's going to be the most expensive election in American history?)

I've kept this book for much too long (in hopes of more people joining). Dude returns to Margih at the upcoming Thursday gathering unless it finds new readers meanwhile.

I have the book now.
I purged my bookshelf and found this book. I didn't realize it was part of Margih's PC collection, I've had it for so long. Do you still want it back?
