Engaging history of the Battle of the Bulger that focuses on one army platoon who find themselves as German POW's. Using the story of these men, the writer is reaches out to touch different aspects of the battle, both on the US and German sides. The book is a quick read, but also a well rounded over view of the Bulge.

Picked up at January Meetup. Seems like it will be good for the upcoming long plane ride (and inevitable delays...)

An extensively researched and very well written account of the actions of a small platoon in the Battle of the Bulge and after. I did get a little lost in a haze of names at one point and the maps could have been more helpful but the story was fascinating and one I didn't know. The author had obviously lengthy interviews with many of the members of the platoon and gives a very first hand account of the training, fighting, and most vividly, the life in the POW camps. Despite the somewhat light, conversational style, it is completely riveting.

Ordered the used book on Amazon.com. My daughter is a history major in college and I actually bought it for her. I read the book and enjoyed it. Mr. Kershaw is an excellent writer making a historical event interesting to read while learning history. This book will probably end up in our personal library.
