Journal Entry 1 by frangipani08 from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Monday, January 08, 2007

Description : A sequel to the international young adult bestseller, Parvana, this is the gripping story of a young girl's journey in search of her family, somewhere in war-ravaged Afghanistan, and of her courage and compassion in the face of many shocking hardships along the way. Imagine that your house has been destroyed by bombs, your friends have fled or been killed, your mother, sister and little brother are missing, and today you buried your father . . . Homeless and alone, Parvana begins a desperate journey through war-torn Afghanistan in search of her family. Living in constant fear of the Taliban, often without food or water in the barren landscape, Parvana and the children she rescues journey on foot through a country laid waste by years of conflict, in search of peace and safety. Parvana's Journey is about a young girl's talent for friendship, hope and gritty determination despite the ravages of war. Sometimes shocking and sad, always compelling, this novel takes an honest, compassionate look at the situation in Afghanistan, and the courage and resilience that can keep children afloat even in the most terrible circumstances. A sequel to the international bestseller, Parvana. Sorry to the other bookrings - but this jumped to the top of the pile - read it in a couple of hours. So moving - I was in tears often - my favourite character was Leila - what she must have endured before Parvana arrived. Whilst this is fiction - these stories have been inspired from the mouths of women and children in refugee camps in Pakistan. I have the address of Tiddley and will be mailed off tomorrow

Journal Entry 13 by bestfriends from - Ergens in de provincie, Gelderland Netherlands on Tuesday, June 19, 2007
Arrived safely in my mailbox today. Thanks rosiewhippet for sending it. I already got a little worried, as normally it does not take 3 weeks for a book to get here from the UK. I look forward to reading this, but it'll have to wait a bit as I just started a 600-something pages ray book! It's a pageturner, so that will help ;-)

Journal Entry 14 by bestfriends from - Ergens in de provincie, Gelderland Netherlands on Sunday, June 24, 2007
Just finished reading and still under the impression. Oops, I would never have chosen this after the last book I read (a romantic historical novel), if it had not been a ring with others waiting. Such a huge transition, to switch from the decadency and intrigues of the medieval English royal court, to the disasters and human sufferings of 21st century Afghanistan. Very disturbing and heartbreaking! Glad to have read the sequel now though. Parvana's story will stay with me for a long, long time! I have mallary's address and will send it to her soon. probably tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.

Another amazing book by Deborah Ellis. I found it both compelling and painful to read. How these children must have suffered (and continue to do so) in Afghanistan. Both of my children have read these first two books and were shocked and impressed by them. (I think they should be compulsory reading in schools to be honest). Thank you for sharing them. Now on it's way to Canada.

Journal Entry 19 by lauraloo29 from Edmonton, Alberta Canada on Friday, January 04, 2008
Interesting story about this book. I've been waiting so long for it. I received a call about 6 weeks ago from someone I didn't know who lives here in Edmonton. I realized he had received a bookcrossing package for me. The address was noted wrong. He had looked up my name in the phone book. I offered to come and pick up the package. But he didn't want that. He said he would correct the address and put the package back in the mail and see what happens. Well..... it finally arrived today. The original post mark is for August 9th. A very long delivery time for Canada Post. :) I'm just happy its here. Will keep it moving.

I found this book heartbreaking. I really wish we could get things under control so children don't suffer like this. I just want to go and hug them. Thank you for sharing. This book will be on its way next week.

This story was absolutely heart breaking. This story really puts life in perspective. How precious it is and how lucky we are. We pick up where we left off in Parvana. After much of her Afghan neighborhood has been destroyed by bombing, Parvana and her father are on the move, trying to find the rest of the family. The journey is horrific. This book has left an impression on me. I am glad I had the opportunity to read this. Thank you for including me in this ring. I have the next person's address and will send on when I can get to the post office.

Journal Entry 24 by rapturina from Yantai, Shandong China on Wednesday, April 23, 2008
I finished reading this book a couple of days ago and was rather impressed by it. I've been reading a lot of books about Afghanistan as I find the country & culture fascinating, but this book really brings home the message of the horrible things the people of Afghanistan have had to go through, without having to go into the whole political situation. I think the real power of this book (and the first one) is that it tells a simple story of regular people, making it easy for the reader to really sympathize with the characters. Thanks for giving me the chance to read this book! I'm currently reading Deborah Ellis's third book, "Mud City", which continues Shazia's story and is also very interesting. I'm sending this on to Aleonblue tomorrow!
