Journal Entry 1 by swan-scot from Inverness, Scotland United Kingdom on Saturday, January 18, 2003
Recent purchase from the Cancer Research Charity shop in Edinburgh. Still to TBR. I actually went looking for "What am I doing Here" - a bookcrossing registered book by the same author. I could not find that, so thought I'd try this instead. Synposis: On the Black Hill is a tale of two brothers (identical twins) who never go anywhere. They stay in the farmhouse on the English-Welsh border where they were born, tilling the rough soil and sleeping in the same bed, touched only occasionally by the advance of the 20th century. 14/2/03 - an okay read. Nothing really memorable - but not as bleak and dark as the story sounds. It accurately portrays the harsh life of the Welsh hill farmer during the 20th century.
