I really liked reading about the experiences of the people who spend time at the South Pole living and researching. The logistics of supplies, recreation, eating, moving about were interesting to me. The drama of the cancer invading a doctor stranded down there was also engaging. The only problem I had was with the author herself who evidently had some personal problems in her life that she didn't deal with well. I found the mixture of a strong surgeon at the South Pole with a "weak" mother and wife (my perception) strange.
