Journal Entry 2 by guinaveve from Mason, Ohio USA on Saturday, January 13, 2007
My favorite King books are the earlier ones; Pet Cemetary, The Shining, Christine, Carrie, and all of his short stories. I found that the previous novel Cell had the feel of those earlier novels. I really enjoyed it regardless of the fact that it had many comparisons to The Stand. I also enjoyed The Dark Tower series, but it had a very different feel to it, and had it been the first King I ever read, I may not have become the fan I am today. Now Lisey's Story was an interesting mixture of both sides of King due to the other worldliness of Boo'ya Moon combined with the strange events and creatures in the book. I did like this book and was very caught up in it and stayed up entirely too late so I could finish it up last night. It doesn't hold a candle to Pet Cemetary but is almost as good as Cell. I did find the numerous made up words annoying. I think it was a combination of there being too many of them and they sounded more silly than scarey. It was easier to enjoy the book once I got further in and more accustomed to the words, but it would have been easier had the words not sounded so goofy. Once you take the jacket cover off of this book, it has a beautiful hardback cover. The colors are bright and vivid and it brings to mind the enchanting yet frightening Boo'ya Moon in the story. I am going to keep this book since it was a gift from my husband and a great hardback edition. I usually wait until books come out in paperback, so it was nice to receive this hardback copy without the wait. My husband will probably also read it at some point though I doubt he will be persuaded to make a journal entry. It was a very intriguing read!
