While attending a fancy party at Roarke's Palace Hotel, Dallas is called to investigate a murder that took place in the rooms upstairs. A maid was brutally beaten, raped, and then killed with a silver wire around her neck. The police department is easily able to identify the killer. The killer was a contract killer for hire who has been killing for 25 years all over the world and no one has been able to catch him. His contract cost would be exorbitant. Why would a maid warrant this contract 'hit'? Then another of Roarke's employees is killed. Is this a message? An old friend from Roarke's past shows up with some shady business dealings. Is he involved? Another great mystery but this time we don't need to find out who the killer is but where he is and why he is killing. Love this series and the sizzle between Eve and Roarke and now also love the Peabody/McNab entanglement

Lieutenant Eve Dallas is at a party with her husband Roarke when she's called to a scene within the hotel with one of the staff being beaten, raped, and murdered. To no one's surprise, Roarke owns the hotel. Eve's investigation leads her to a hired killer, which soon gets the FBI on her tail because they've been hunting this guy for a long time. Another murder, a distant friend of Roarke's who is also employed by him, makes the FBI want to take over the case. Eve doesn't allow that happen and suspects the murders may be personal, targeting Roarke. As always, Eve is stubborn and persistent as she searches for the killer and comes closer than the FBI ever did. This was just like any other Eve Dallas book. You're always sucked in by the relationship between Eve and Roarke, you go along for the ride, and you usually aren't surprised by the ending. These books are still entertaining and I look forward to the next one.
