A book that exposes some of the dreadful violence that happened in Sri Lanka in the 1980s. The reader learns a lot about Sri Lanka and its history and the practice of forensic archeology. There are moments of great beauty and insight and it is an important book given the subject matter but overall I was a little underwhelmed.

I really enjoyed Ondaatje's The English Patients and this has much the same style. It's full of odd characters and beautiful scenes, but in the end the story didn't quite get together.

Whoops! I picked this up at the meetup a little while ago then promptly went on holiday and forgot to register it. Never mind, done now. Thanks McGeerts.
I read this about a month ago. Why did I not journal it at the time? I must be going off my head. My memories of the story are now somewhat hazy. It was a nice enough book I think but it didn't set my imagination on fire.
