Blurb from the back of the book:

"Real cats never eat from bowls (at least, not the ones marked CAT).

Real cats never wear flea collars ... or appear on birthday cards ... or chase anything with a bell in it.

Real cats do ear quiche. And giblets. And butter. And anything else left on the table.

They can hear a fridge door opening 2 rooms away.

Real cats don't need names. But they often get called them.

'Yaargeroffoutofityarbastard' does nicely."

A fun read from Terry Pratchett.

I'm offering this book up as an International Bookray, as it's on quite a few wishlists. I hope it is enjoyed by all readers.

Journal Entry 3 by Lottiotta from Aberdovey, Wales United Kingdom on Friday, January 26, 2007
How exciting! I've found it so difficult to get hold of this book, so I'm really pleased. I'm just half-way through so far, and I'm loving it! In particular:
  • The cartoon of the mother cat teaching its kitten on page 23 - how cute is the little kitten!
  • In the FAQ section: Q: Can I be a pedigree and a Real cat too? A: Of course you can't, you're a human.

I may add more, as my reading continues! Should be a fast read, might even be able to finish it before last post, so I'll PM the next person for an address now. :)

Thanks so much for hosting the ray, aleonblue! :)

2nd February 2007
Still haven't heard from the next person, although I may have got a PM and then forgotten. I'll double check, and send another PM, and keep you updated on its progress.

Oh, and Shven-bob read it and enjoyed it too. :)

5th February 2007
OK, I have an address, I'll send it on to DEESSE tomorrow. :)

Journal Entry 4 by DEESSE from Erstein, Alsace France on Friday, February 9, 2007
I found the book yesterday in my letterbox. Thank you, lottiotta for sending it and thank you, aleonblue for this bookray.
I think I have a RealCat, because he loves and steals butter!!!

Journal Entry 5 by DEESSE from Erstein, Alsace France on Monday, February 26, 2007
It was a very funny book and being a cat-lover and -owner myself I had to laugh out loud. I think my grey tomcat is definitely a Real cat!
Since last week it's on its way to rowenne in the USA.

Journal Entry 6 by rowenne from Winlock, Washington USA on Wednesday, March 7, 2007
I grew up with a Real Cat. He was the black tom described in the book.=)
My son is reading this one now, and then I will mail it on to ghaweyn.
This was a very fun read!

I received this book a while ago and did not realize it was part of a ring. I thought it was one of a group of RABCK. Sorry. So, I will read it this weekend and send it as soon as I have the next address. Again, sorry to holding up the line.

Journal Entry 11 by Nicolicious from Brooklyn, New York USA on Thursday, June 14, 2007
I got the book today. Thank you leota for sending it to me, and aleonblue for setting up this bookray! I can't wait to read this, and I'll post again when I'm done with it and ready to send it on.

Journal Entry 12 by Nicolicious from Brooklyn, New York USA on Monday, June 25, 2007
This was a great book, and I could relate to a lot of the things Pratchett said about Real cats, since I've grown up with cats as pets. Terry Pratchett is very clever, and his writing is imaginative, but the real humor comes from the comments he makes that everyone can identify with.

I mailed this book out to rebiccola on Friday, so she should be receiving it very soon.

Journal Entry 13 by rebiccola from Greenbelt, Maryland USA on Thursday, June 28, 2007
I just got this book in the mail a day or so ago. If I don't have it read before my vacation next week, I'll have it finished by the end of my vacation.

Journal Entry 14 by rebiccola from Greenbelt, Maryland USA on Thursday, July 12, 2007
Wow, this was a fast and fun read! I'm not a cat person, but I enjoyed the book anyway.

I'm still waiting to get an address to send it to, but it will be sent soon.

Journal Entry 15 by GateGypsy from Ladysmith, British Columbia Canada on Wednesday, July 25, 2007
Arrived in the post today! Pratchett is so much fun, and this looks like it will be a lovely little "break book" to squeeze in between my heavier reading items like Grapes of Wrath, Wideacre (which, although not "heavy" emotionally like Grapes of Wrath, is still "heavy" physically!), and Kafka on the Shore. I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks so much for sharing, aleonblue! Of course, with all those rings, it may be closer to 6-8 weeks before this moves forward, but I promise it will continue!

Journal Entry 16 by GateGypsy from Ladysmith, British Columbia Canada on Sunday, September 23, 2007
I read this in one go! It was a lovely little jaunt, and had me laughing out loud. I especially related to the "a real cat knows what a bathroom is for" rule. Yes. Yes, he does. I've always been a little ambivalent about it as 1) at least it's in a place that's easily cleaned, yes? but 2) that's my BATHTUB!

**laughs**

As a life-long cat co-habiter, I had much to relate to in this book, and found it very amusing.

It is now in the hands of Canada Post and travelling (as an oversized letter, I believe) to brewster13 in Alberta as of Sept 22.

Journal Entry 17 by brewster13 from Calgary, Alberta Canada on Wednesday, October 10, 2007
This arrived for me to read :-) I think I will take a break from the Lord of the Rings trilogy to get to this one. It looks light and fun and that's just what I think I need right now :-)

Journal Entry 18 by brewster13 from Calgary, Alberta Canada on Monday, November 26, 2007
Man ... aiaiai I read this weeks ago, and have sent it off to dopsis in Australia last week. It was sent airmail, so it should arrive shortly. My apologies for the lack of communication on here -- I've been exhausted and nauseas during my first weeks of pregnancy, and this was just one of many things that slipped my mind recently.

Enjoy the book. I sure did. It was a quick, great read! Thanks for sharing aleonblue!

Journal Entry 19 by dopsis from Albany, Western Australia Australia on Saturday, December 1, 2007
Arrived Friday. I have to admit, I'm not a cat lover, but I am a huge Pratchett fan, so am really looking forward to this. I'm halfway through my present book, so should get to this in the next few days.

Thanks for sharing, aleonblue :)

Journal Entry 20 by dopsis from Albany, Western Australia Australia on Wednesday, December 12, 2007
Great book, but still definately a dog person! In fact, parts of this left me wondering hy anyone would want to own a cat at all!

I pm'd Melanie2474 when the book arrived and haven't had a reply- I'll give it another go just in case she didn't receive it. Sorry for the delay in this, I haven't had chance to turn the computer on in a week!

Journal Entry 21 by dopsis from Albany, Western Australia Australia on Wednesday, December 26, 2007
Posting to Crystaljade today:) (Can't get hold of Melanie2474 and Lazzulii asked to be moved down the list.)

Thanks for sharing aleonblue:)

Journal Entry 22 by Crystaljade from Hervey Bay, Queensland Australia on Wednesday, January 9, 2008
This delightful little book arrived last week, I just haven't had access to a pc until now.

I also laughed out loud in places, so much of it is so very, very true! But they forgot one thing...."A Real Cat will always sit on whatever the human is reading...errr, trying to read...including books about Real Cats!" LOL Two of mine have sat/layed on this particular book. And yes, they are both Real...or at least the kitten shows all signs of being Real when he grows up. I'll probably give the book another quick read while waiting for the address for the next person. It should be posted off early next week.

The book also mentioned Real Cats and visiting the vet. We had an emergency trip there this week, and I noticed something else about Real Cats and the vet....a Real Cat will spend the entire trip to the vet's office trying desperately to get out of whatever container you have confined him to....but the moment you open the container in the vet's office, a Real Cat will squish himself into the deepest corner and refuse to come out!

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
