Straight into Darkness

Faye Kellerman's mysteries are usually a fun read, but this one is a great read. It is set in Munich in 1929 as the Nazi party is growing in strength. The main character is very well drawn; he is a complicated person living in very complicated times. I didn't always like him, but his failings are human ones and his strengths are heroic. A great read for lovers of mysteries, good characters, and social histories.

Re'cvd book today. Excited to give it a go!! Thanks for sharing!!!!
Murder mysteries are not my usual thing...I don't know why exactly because I usually end up enjoying them. This one was no exception.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought it moved at a good pace and I loved the history that was thrown in. I agree w/ you Joanthro...didn't always like the main character, but he had his moments.
Thanks so much for sharing, Joanthro!! So sorry it took me so long to get it journaled...I feel bad about that!! It will be off to nicolesinger in the next day or two.

Got the book in yesterday's mail. I'm near the end of my current read and have one other bookring to read - I'll try to get it turned around ASAP. Thanks, Joanthro and Bug!
Received in the mail today. I plan on reading it this weekend. Thanks for sharing!
UPDATE on 6/10/2007: This is certainly not the Faye Kellerman that I am used to. The story seemed interesting enough, but I couldn't get into it. After 140 or so pages, I just don't think this book is for me. I've pm'd the next person for address and will send it on soon.

On its way to Minerva101 in Canada! Safe travels!
Arrived in the mail today - thank you!

This didn't take me long to read and I quite enjoyed it.
Faye Kellerman has an easy writing style to read and the story was a very good one.
Like Joanthro, I really appreciated how 'human' the main character was, flaws and all. He wasn't always easy to like, but I think he was a good man trying to do his best.
The insights on how the Jews were treated as Hitler was rising to power were disturbing to say the least. My heart absolutely bled for poor Margot - I think it is important for all of us to read about this time period in our history regularly so that history doesn't repeat itself.
The book was also, at it's roots, a darn good murder mystery - lots of twists and dead ends to keep the tension up.
So, I think I still prefer Jonathan Kellerman, but if I stumble upon another Faye Kellerman I won't hesitate to read her again.
Thanks so much for offering this book as a ring, Joanthro! Good book!
I have pm'd MinervaBCN and am waiting for her mailing address
