"Dr. Temperance Brennan, forensic anthropologist for the medical examiners in Montreal and North Carolina, departs from home turf to journey to Guatemala, where her skills will be tested to the limit. It was a summer morning in 1982 when soldiers entered the village of Chupan Ya and rounded up the women and children. No records were kept. Families and neighbours refer to their lost members as "the disappeared". The bodies are said to lie in a mass grave. Tempe digs in the cold, damp pit. The soil begins to yield ash and cinders. Her trowel uncovers the bone of a child no more than 2 yrs years old. Something savage happened in this village twenty years ago. And something savage is happening today. Four girls missing from Guatemala City, including the daughter of a high ranking government official. When a young archaeologist is brutally murdered, Tempe realizes that she may be the next victim in a web of intrigue that connects the historical and contemporary murders." - amazon.co.uk synopsis

A great read - enthralled me right to the end. Will now pass it back to cyzaki to add to her large pile of books!

Thanks mum, looking forward to this one, when I eventually get round to it!

And thanks chunniemonster too :-)

A good read, but there were times when I didn't really understand what was going on. Think that had more to do with reading it late at night while half asleep than with the actual book though!

I've put this book into the Alternate Format Swap on BCUK Extra.

There's only one bad thing about receiving books and that's receiving them and then feeling guilty for not putting into action promises you made! Life may be a little tough at present (excuses I know), but this will be read sometime next year. Thanks Cyzaki for sending.

I said sometime next year, make that over 7 years later! My first book to read by Kathy Reichs, at first I wasn't that fussed on her writing style, and although I was used to it by the end, I still don't know if I'm happy with it. The story was well put together, but I did get a little lost at times. Passed the time well enough.

Thanks for sharing.
