I loved reading an advance copy of this murder mystery set in St. Petersburg, Russia in the 1800's.

Clever premise - the same detective in Dostoyevsky's Crime & Punishment takes an interest in this case a year and a half later.
Some of the language, style, pace remind me of a Russian novel.
An enjoyable, not that deep, read - that grabs your attention from the start.

Well, Scott _had_ planned to release this book at the 2007 German Convention in Frankfurt, but he couldn't, as I took it right away during one of our breakfasts at the hotel... *veg*

Will be now on my TBR and is planned to be read as next book, so I can bring it over to Edinburgh in July (where I will spend a few days).

It was quite difficult to distinguish the people with all there russian (double) names, of which are some quite alike. It was an interesting plot with some nice twistings, however, historical crimescenes seemes not to be my favorite ones.

Received from Wyando on his holidays in Scotland. Sounded very interesting so will hang on to it for a while before I will release it again at one of our future Edinburgh Meet Ups

Brilliant ! Loved the way the author build up the story, great pychological insight into the characters and had no idea which way the novel was heading.Like the description of 1860's St Petersburg too.
