I just realized how many memoirs about food I've read recently...

Anyway, this one was a really enjoyable one. Essentially, it chronicles the year of a woman named Julie who finds inspiration in Julia Child and her cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking. I think what hits most about this book is its ability to inspire readers to enjoy life and just go for it. Great book, definitely recommend it!

Releasing this one through a bookring!

I don't know what I expected, but the story and how it's told was a nice surprise. I enjoyed learning about Julia Child's history (or possible history!). Made me think a little about how the recent movie "The Queen" offers a possibility of an understanding of a person.

Thank you, bluehawaii18!
Will send off to next person.

Phew!! Sorry for the delay....finally got through this one. Not too sure how I feel about this one. There were parts(the beginning and the end) that I really enjoyed. Somewhere in the middle it just dragged for me. Unfortunately, I am just the type that has to finish a book I've started, so I kept on plugging away...which I am glad I did because the end was the only part I really, really liked.

I, quite honestly, didn't care much for the author's voice in this one...she kind of got on my nerves. :( She kind of jumped all over the place....stories bleeding into other stories, etc. Hmmmm...just not sure. Not the worst book I've ever read certainly, but far from the best.

Thanks for the chance to read it, bluehawaii....I appreciate your patience!!!! I mailed it off today to HallieK.

I love this book! Julie is a riot and I love her style. She's so very real and honest. I will certainly be digging up a copy of Julia's cookbook because I must see some of these pictures and directions. Especially the stuffed duck.

Thank you so much for sharing this book. It was a fun read!

I actually mailed this one out 9/26. Sorry for the delay!

I loved this book, it was humorous, informative and, at times, something everyone could relate to.

Sending it home as soon as I receive an address.

Rec'd this book today. I'm halfway through reading the previous bookring and should be starting this one this weekend. It's funny how bookrings that you joined at different times seem to all come at once!
This is odd. I just looked back at this entry and I remember journaling before I mailed it. Must have left the page before my journal was saved.

Maybe it's just that I've been doing Weight Watchers the last couple of years but most of the recipes sounded very unappetizing to me. Julie's attitude toward her husband through much of the book reminded me of the wife in Bitter is the New Black. One can only hope the real life marriage is better than it sounds in the books they write.

Many of the New York apartment stories really rang true. I don't miss living there for a moment. I was kind of surprised the Julia Child was so unfriendly about the whole thing but it was an interesting addition to the book.
