Different front cover.

I've seen Anita Shreve's name about quite a lot, though don't know anything about her and she hasn't actually made it onto my wish list.

Look forward to finding out! With a Christmas holiday looming, that looks like the ideal time :-)

From the back cover;
As a pilot’s wife in the New England mill town of her birth, Kathryn Lyons has learned to expect intense exhilaration, occasional boredom and long spells apart from her husband – but nothing prepares Kathryn for the late-night knock on the door informing her that he has died in a crash.

Even before the plane is located in the waters off the coast of Ireland, the tragedy becomes the subject of a media feeding frenzy. Could there be any truth to the bizarre, disturbing rumours that Jack Lyons led a secret life? Struggling with her grief, and fighting the urge to protect herself and her precocious daughter from the mystery surrounding the crash, Kathryn is determined to learn who her husband really was, whatever that knowledge may cost.

(Errr, well, obviously didn't manage to read it at Christmas time!)

This was a slightly odd read because I’m learning to speed-read and it was my first practice novel :o) (So if you find any pencil marks - sorry, I rubbed out as many as I could find!)

I was interested and relieved to note that, at about 500 words per minute, I still had a sense of the book’s atmosphere and the emotions being stirred up by the author. The 'tipping point' was there too – about 2/3 of the way through I was keen to get on and finish the book.

Can’t think of much to say about it though - quite a simple story, certainly easy to read. Throughout the book you may wonder if Shreve's going to go for the 'obvious' subplot - but you'll have to read it to find out if she does!

Will look out for more Shreve if it passes my way.

Taking to the Chelmsford meet tonight, at the Riverside Inn, Victoria Road, to see if there's any interest!

Brought home from the Chelmsford Meet last night - to be read by both me and my Mum!

This did and didn't turn out the way I expected. The main twist was something I was anticipating but the actual way it turned out was an almighty twist that came from absolutely nowhere to my mind, concerning a sbuject I hadn't thought of in absolute years.

It was good, I liked it even though I did find it mildly predictable. Anita Shreve's attention to the minor details is a marvel - I shall be reading more :-) This one will now go into Mum's TBR pile.

Will we see you at Ipswich on Saturday, Marmite?
