(Different front cover.)

It's a few years since I read this, and therefore can barely recall the plot, but I think it is my favourite Banks' book.

Not a typical Banks, although he has written quite a few atypical ones outside of a core of more similar ones like, say, Complicity or The Business.

I've bought this for TurquoiseFloyd's Secret Santa present; I noticed she is reading author's from around the world, and hasn't read a Scottish author yet. Sorted!

Received at the Ipswich meet today as my Secret Santa :-) Looking forward to colouring in Scotland on my World Tour map!

Wow. This was amazing. I'd heard talk of "unreliable narrators" before in another book place, but Isis was quite a revelation. She wasn't exactly unreliable but you clearly understand her way of looking at the world and how her lack of experience colours her perceptions but I enjoyed that a lot. Whit was a rollercoaster ride and simply unputdownable - I'm gonna pass it to my Mum next because I think she'll enjoy it too.

Thanks for this, Pakasanelly! Now I want to read a lot more Iain Banks!

Taking to the Ipswich Meet tomorrow!

I came away from the Ipswich meeting on Saturday with two Iain Banks novels, both strongly recommended. This looks totally different from "The Wasp Factory", but equally interesting.

Sorry but this has remained with me for far too long unread. My need to downsize having moved to somewhere too small to accommodate all my books means that this, and others, will be seeking new homes.
