Picked this up from the book table at Unconvention - just my kind of thing (and there weren't many of this kind of book there) and I look forward to reading it and sharing it with the friends I know will like it if I do!

Nice to finally meet you, too, Necroscope!

An excellent novel taking two characters, removed from their New Delhi background, linking them tenously but disastrously, surrounding them in secrets, and suspending the denouement till the last quarter, with a rush to try to sort things out in time for both the characters, and the book's close. This is reminiscent of Sharon Mass in its multi-continental location and the depth in which the characters are explored.

I will share this on a BookRing!

Arrived safe and sound. I didn't realise I was top of the list.
I'll get to it as soon as I can but I have two rings ahead at the moment. I'll try not to hold things up too long.

Journal Entry 9 by lellie from Trimley St Mary, Suffolk United Kingdom on Wednesday, December 5, 2007
An excellent read. I can always judge a book I am enjoying by the speed with which I read it and this one took no time at all.
I have a fascination for all things Asian and this one was just right for me.
One small caveat, the glossary of Indian words was huge and I found myself turning to it so much that at times I lost the flow of the narrative. Some things were useful and neccessary to know, but others were either self-explanatory or didn't really matter, for example does anyone really not know what a sari is, or a pashmina, or a rickshaw? I don't believe that words such as these which are in common global use need to be italicised in the text as it does spoil the flow.
But this is a very small niggle in what was otherwise a very good book.

Will be on its way as soon as I have an address.

Thanks for sharing this book. I really enjoyed it and I know it will stay w/ me for a while. I think of Nalini and her choice at the end and wonder how long she will keep this circle of silence. Will send off to blundery today.

Journal Entry 13 by Blundery on Tuesday, January 22, 2008
Received as part of a book ring. I am looking forward to starting this one over the next week.

Journal Entry 14 by Blundery on Thursday, January 31, 2008
What an outstanding read that was. I was completely absorbed from the minute I started until the book finished. The level of cultural content was completely appropriate and well balanced, making this a love story with so much more.

Thank you so much LyzzyBee for organising this book ring - to think that I almost didn't join in and would have missed out entirely but for your gentle persuasion :-)

I will post this onto the next person on the list as soon as I get postal details.

Thankyou Blundery. That was quick. Also, thank you Liz for adding me to a list for what sounds like a lovely love story.

I was lost in Rattan/Nilini world this week. A lovely love story without too much heart jerkng - I am a tender soul!

To continue the glossary debate - I found the conversation between Nilini and the house guards tiresome to follow, surely it could have been translated in one lump (but I was intent on the plot at that point and turning back and forth put me off a bit).

A big thank you to LyzzyBee for making another good Asian novel avalable to us all. I for one had never found this genre before and I will read any titles that come my way with confidence that I will find them enjoyable.

Going off to PurleRosebud today.

Journal Entry 17 by purplerosebud from Petersfield, Hampshire United Kingdom on Thursday, March 27, 2008
Many thanks arrived today! Only 1 short book in front and then I will get started but with 500 pages it may take me a little while to get through it.

Journal Entry 18 by purplerosebud from Petersfield, Hampshire United Kingdom on Monday, May 5, 2008
A very nice, easy to read story. I was surprised at what happened and intrigued to know how it would all end.

Thanks for sharing Lyzzybee, just my kind of story. Will be posting off to Scotsbookie very soon.

Journal Entry 19 by scotsbookie from Peebles, Scotland United Kingdom on Saturday, May 10, 2008
This arrived safely this morning, thank you PurpleRosebud & for the lovely card & bookmark :) I'm glad I'm the last for this ring as they are building up AGAIN!

Journal Entry 20 by scotsbookie from Peebles, Scotland United Kingdom on Tuesday, May 27, 2008
An excellent read. I was thoroughy absorbed in the world of Nalini & Rattan's world. The plot held my interest, although I guessed who had done it, I was intrigued to see how it would be revealed.

Thank you LyzzyBee for another enjoyable Asian bookring.

I will offer this up again as a ray & see if I can get more readers.
