Ein äußerst lustiges Buch, das ich mir in meiner Irland-Zeit zugelegt habe. Lesenswert!!!

A hilarious book I bought during my 7-month stay in Ireland. Worth the read!!!

I'm really enjoying this book. Not only is it laugh out loud funny (and I have, many times, over past few days) but it is full of information about the places he visits. I realise this is only his approach to what he see and who he meets, but he certainly has me recalling my visit to Eire several years ago. Like Pete, we too were very fortunate with the weather. We had 3 glorious weeks of sunshine, during one of the once-in-every-ten-years heatwaves.

Pete is like many of us, in being a compulsive reader. He says:

"I've trained myself over the years never to go anywhere without something to read, just in case someone turns up late, the meeting ends early, or I'm inadvertently imprisioned for 35 years and put into solitary confinement. I'm actually quite worried about those people you see on long train journeys with nothing to read, just staring blankly into the middle distance. What the hell is going on in their heads, then? Perhaps they've excellent memories, and they're just remembering a particularly good book they once read, which saves them having to carry one around. Because there's a danger in carrying a book around: you might leave it somewhere before you've finished it."

I'm really tempted to order a copy of his new book "The Road To McCarthy" (PB to be published on 3rd March) to read before I go to hear him speak at our local theatre on 1st April.

I went to the theatre with every intention of leaving this book on the tables in the foyer during the interval of Pete's show, but I bumped into an old aquaintance and gave the book to her instead! She was delighted! She doesn't have internet access, so I said I'd write to say the book is in safe hands and is going to be read and released. I've not seen this woman, Renate, for ~20 years but recognised her immediately and we had a lovely chat! Funnily enough, as soon as I mentioned the idea of leaving books around for others to find, she knew what I was talking about. She had read the article in the local paper two weeks ago, when I was interviewed for the Inverness Courier, but had not recognised me in the accompanying photograph.

At the end of the show, as I was saying goodbye to Renate, she remembered the date - April 1st - and wondered if this was an April fool! I assured her, no tricks and the book truely was hers! She has promised to pass the book along when she is finished and I hope she will let me know when and where so I can update the journal entries.
